Waiting for grade Odysseus should be considered a hero. Odysseus had been the protagonist throughout the story and we see the struggles he overcomes. Throughout the story, we see his hard dedication and hard work. He is known to be very helpful, has always put others before him, and he tries his hardest not to give up. Odysseus is one that others should look up to in any need of trouble.
First off, Odysseus is always helpful in any way possible. When he and his men get into a shipwreck at the island where Poseidon's son lived, he tries to help out getting his men to safety. He helps them by forming a plan. Despite having many of his men eaten by Poseidon's son, the cyclops, he tries to help all of them out. Even if it meant putting himself in danger. The way he got all of his men out was by attaching them to the sheep that the cyclops owned. This resulted in Odysseus getting his men out of the cyclops's trapped cave and having them run to the boat to leave the danger of the island.

Just like in the story of the cyclops, he put his men first to put them to safety. He isn't greedy and looks out for others. He did everything he could to ensure that they would all get off the island safely. Even if some of Odysseus's men were unlucky enough to get eaten, Odysseus still felt sorrow for them. A hero is one to care for others and not himself. The same had happened for Odysseus's dog. The bond that he had with his pet was strong. His dog waited for so long to see him, even if it meant that he had to live in such horrible conditions. He had been abandoned and lived through garbage, but he wouldn't give up until he saw his owner again. This just shows that Odysseus is one to create a bond with his friends. He cares for them and had always
A hero can not endure the pain a 10 year war brings, nor fight for his and his men’s lives on the way back home. Odysseus leads his men through all the islands of minor God’s and Goddesses, and many monsters. At the island of the Lotus Eaters, he tied his men to the ship and plugged their ears so they would not hear the enticing music. As a result, he escaped this threat without even coming close to the enemy, and he never gave up. If he was not a hero, he would have killed his men and himself on the way back.
Some facts are that he saved his men by fighting a cyclops, fought for a whole day straight, and led his army back home after being gone for 20 years. Odysseus is a hero because he is wise, a good leader, and strong. Odysseus is a hero because he uses his whits, His leadership, and his strength to save his men and fight through adversity. Odysseus is a hero because he is smart. For example in lines 247-250, In the cyclops, he knows that he cannot kill the cyclops immediately cause if he does then they will be trapped in the cave and die.
Is Odysseus a Hero? A hero is someone that would fight for justice, do things other people won’t do to achieve it, and give equality to every single being on earth. In the Odyssey from the author Homer, we can see and share the journey of our main character, (Odysseus), as he lives incredible adventures in a trip that was supposed to be only a couple months but the trip turned out to be ten years long due to a curse that was set on him. He is a hero for some people and he’s not for other, it depends on what qualities you’re looking in order to be a hero. He is a hero even though he didn’t save anybody you can see he was smart he also was always worried about his men, he trusted every single one of his men and show leadership among them.
Odysseus cannot be a hero due to his uncontrollable arrogance that harms others around him. For example, Odysseus endangers his men through their encounter of Polyphemus, the son of Poseidon, he boasts that “[the one that] put out your eye [was] Odysseus of Ithaca” (Hind 108). Odysseus used his arrogance to add onto a streak but would later regret his decision as he would be lost for eternity. By adding the unnecessary touch of inquiring that he was “Odysseus of Ithaca” instead of focusing on running away, it would cause his men to be endangered as the gods would now know the identity of the individual and curse Odysseus and his men on all his sails. Secondly, Odysseus’s nature of Hubris is when he sleeps with Circe after she releases his men from a curse that turned them into pigs even as his men said that they should leave (125).
Odysseus is a hero. He is a hero because he is brave, loyal to his family, and he is also a great leader. A hero should be someone that is a leader in wherever they go, and whatever they do. People look up to heros. We’ve all been that one kid, dressing up as spiderman, or superman.
There is no excuse for his behavior, except his own selfish pride and hubris. So no, Odysseus is not a Hero.
After reading the “Odyssey,” a lot of people raise questions about Odysseus being a hero. What is a hero anyway? A hero is a person, who is idealized or admired for his/her courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Odysseus does fit in all the requirements of a hero as he fights in the Trojan war, he saves his crew from Polyphemus, and he saves his palace from the suitors. Therefore, Odysseus can be called a hero.
A hero is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. In the movie, Odysseus shows that he is a hero by showing off his bravery and courage to defeat several monsters. He showed courage when he faced the Cyclops, when he met Lotus Eaters, and when he went back to Ithaca to see his wife. Odysseus and his men went to the cave to show the Cyclops that they are better than him. The Cyclops got angry when he got back to his cave since Odysseus and his men were eating the Cyclops’ food.
Odysseus is not a hero because he stabs Polyphemus in the eye and blinds him. Odysseus is still a hero because he is a leader. Moreover, after Odysseus and his men fight the Cicones, he orders ¨Back and Quickly! Out to sea again!” (Homer 984).
Some think Odysseus is a hero for many reasons, mainly because he helps many people including his family and his crew. Even when terrible things happen to him and his crew he perseveres and continues on his journey home. Even though Odysseus and his men do bad things like eating the sun god’s cattle there still are many reasons why he is a hero. One reason to support my claim is that he saves his crew many times. One example is when they sailed by the Sirens.
A true hero don’t only look out for himself, he looks out for everyone around him that’s on his side. So he should be looking out for his crew members. And he has not did that because at the end of his journey all of him men dies. Penelope thinks that Odysseus is a true hero. Yeah he might have got his men out of the bad situation.
Odysseus is an epic hero because of his bravery and confidence during every obstacle throughout his journey In Part 1 whie Odysseus is about to come across cyclops cave, he says “I brought along and victuals in a bag, for in my bones I knew some towering brute would be upon so soon- all outward power, a wild man, ignorant of civility. “ Odysseus is showing his bravery of not being petrified of what he might come across, like the cyclops. Odysseus has no intention of harming them, but he is not sure what their intention is. This example is important because not only does it show confidence in himself, he also shows confidence in his men. In Part 2 Odysseus also shows his confidence in his men in part 2 where Eurylochus says, “Are you flesh and blood, Odysseus, to endure more than a man can?
Odysseus has some good traits, some bad flaws, and has been in some ugly situations, but overall he is a true hero. Some of the traits that exemplify his heroism traits are his cleverness, determination, and his bravery. In several scenarios he saves his men from sticky situations, showing his bravery, his determination
You must be made all of iron" (279-80). While Odysseus is a strong man and a hard worker, it is always better to be on his good side, as he can be very temperamental( third source). We see that he has a temper multiple times throughout his journey, but the most prominent time, perhaps, is when he has the suitors killed when he returns to Ithaca. In conclusion, Odysseus is a hero because of his many great qualities.
In The Odyssey, Odysseus was a major hero of the novel. He had both heroic traits and human weaknesses. Odysseus defeated the Cyclops, defeated the suitors that were courting his wife, and overcome other challenges throughout the novel. A special trait that made Odysseus a hero was that he was a courageous
