Do you have a gun in your household? Should people carry guns with them? Michael Steele once said,”You can have all the gun control laws in the country, but if you don 't enforce them, people are going to find a way to protect themselves. We need to recognize that bad people are doing bad things with these weapons. It 's not the law-abiding citizens, it 's not the person who uses it as a hobby.
Many of us own guns because they make us feel safer. We know we can protect ourselves. If they take guns away, how will we protect our families? There would be nothing worse for a man than to have to sit and watch as someone hurt his family, because he had no means of defense. Also, many ladies who have to walk home or down alleys late at night are carrying guns to defend themselves if attacked.
I believe that due to recent shootings, we as America should do something to put an end to these shootings. I know that the difference between gun advocates versus gun control activists is that gun advocates have guns and know how to use them properly. Donald Trump has stated that to put an end to the shootings is not only due from obtaining a gun, but mental health. I also believe that it isn’t necessary to own a gun unless you’re using. I am torn between both sides, because half of the people feel more safe when they have a gun on hand, and the others feel more safe knowing that no one is in possession of a weapon.
She writes, “There are about 300 million guns in this country - nearly one for every man, woman, and child.” and “I am highly skeptical that reducing the number of guns will actually result in fewer mass killings.” In this passage, Dalmia is suggesting that even if there were to be a ban on guns, it would not help the fact that people are still going to use them for the wrong reasons. She states, “The grim lesson is this: There is nothing we can do to completely stop all killers at all times. The possibilities for mayhem are infinite.
This makes us wonder why people can be so defensive over something like a gun that is so dangerous and has lead to a lot of deaths in the American society. Gun control is essential in our society today because it will help prevent unnecessary shootings and crime rate Gun control will play a major part in the decrease of the crime and murder rate. Therefore, in my point of view, guns should be totally controlled and regulated by the government. If gun ownership is controlled by the government, only a limited number of people will be allowed to own guns. In addition, the regulations will make it difficult for people to access guns unless they have a concrete reason as to why they need the weapon.
As Pollitt says in The Nation, “… without a gun, it’s difficult to kill and injure a whole crowd of people, no matter how much you’d like to” (484.) Background checks are necessary to keep guns out of the hands of people who will do harm with them. Background checks should not be limited to stores. More should be included as well on the background checks being done. There is no reason they should not also be used in purchasing arsenal.
Running head: GUN VIOLENCE GUN VIOLENCE What Changes Should Be Made Cassius A. Kurns Jr Mr. Redmond Leo High School A way that we can decrease gun violence is have a stricter sale on firearms. Loopholes now exist in the background check system that make it possible for people with criminal records or mental health issues to procure guns. For instance, a gun purchased over the Internet or from a private individual at a gun show is not subject to a background check because neither instance involves licensed gun sellers.
The following argument is in favor of gun control. The restrictions on guns in place today are not nearly sufficient considering the level of gun violence seen on a daily basis. In the article “Stronger Gun Control Laws Will Save Lives” it is stated, “The fact is that very few federal laws regulate the manufacture, sale or possession of firearms, and those currently on the books are filled with loopholes or significantly tie the hands of law enforcement.” Arming citizens would not reduce crime or allow for self-defense, it would merely place guns into the wrong hands of people who are not trained enough or mentally stable to handle them. This is why there are so many school shootings and public massacres on television constantly broadcasted
Gun control also limits our constitutionally derived right to own firearms. If gun control is enforced, law-abiding citizens will be forced to give up their guns and their right to own guns, while many criminals who own guns may illegally keep theirs. As the saying goes “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Guns are an important aspect of our society in many ways. They allow for protection, recreation, and hunting.
2. I don 't think that teachers should be armed either. I feel like someone that has a gun should go through an extensive training (that doesn 't just last a couple of days or a background check) and should prove they are capable of handing a gun only when necessary. I lived in one of the most dangerous countries in the world, and I saw how license guns only increased the violence. People used guns to protect their loved ones yet that one person who was harmed also had people that cared about them who wanted revenge.
(Cathy Lanier) and New York City suggested that citizens should take action to defend themselves if faced with a similar attack OTHER - Taking away guns does not actually drop the crime/murder rate - Most people who misuse handguns and do harmful acts with them are buying them illegally and do not have a concealed handgun license - Owning a handgun can protect the citizen when the police are unable to always be relied on - The right to own guns should not be taken away from everyone, including those who don’t misuse them, but rather only from those that do - Guns aren’t the issue it’s the people who use them wrongfully - Stopping the black market for guns will do more justice than taking them all away - Criminals will still use some form of weapon even if its not a gun so why not allow guns for people with concealed handgun licenses to protect themselves and others COUNTERS - Counter argument 1: More guns allow for more suicides? Yes people may choose to use a gun if they have access to one, for example in their house, but if someone is seriously going to commit suicide they will find another form or way to do it… guns don’t promote it or make it more
Handguns are restricted in Canada, as long as they have a barrel length of 4 inches or larger . Anyone can purchase a handgun after completing a firearms course, and you belong to a gun club. You are allowed to fire these weapons at a firing range, but not on private property. I am going to list a few reasons why handguns should be unrestricted in Canada.
The Second Amendment is a frequently debated topic in today’s society. The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791 when the Bill of Rights were passed. The Amendment was easily accepted because of the majority consensus that the government should not have the ability to take weapons away from people. In many countries, corrupt governments use armed soldiers and other arms to control and oppress people.
In 1939, Germany established gun control. From 1939 to 1945, six million Jews and seven million others unable to defend themselves had their lives taken away. [1] Could this outcome have changed if the Jews were armed with guns? Could thirteen million innocent lives have been saved? Does taking away firearms help someone in a situation like this?
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (The Constitution of the Untied States, Amendment 2) Whether it’s protecting your family from intruders and criminals, starting a revolution against a tyrant government, or just having casual target practice with some friends, guns have always been the tool of choice since they were first invented. Today, nations across the world constantly debate and argue whether their citizens should be allowed to carry firearms. More specifically, the United States it seems like every day argues about if they should be kept with freedom, with restrictions, or banned completely. No matter what side people are
