Shin guards are pads used to protect your shins in soccer. Protection is crucial since the sport is physical and can be rough. Even so, I love to play. Although my introduction to it was not the best, it helped me connect with my family and myself. Being able to play the sport in a different country, play in high school, and still play in an adult league today has given me friendships and lessons. Thanks to soccer, I met these amazing people. In the sport, I had to protect myself in my ways and for different reasons, but it was always constant, and that is why I chose shin guards as my object.

I spent half of my childhood in Mexico and lived in the countryside. The dirt roads were the field, and we played barefoot. Most of my cousins my age were boys and always played soccer. I wanted to play too, but they said I couldn’t because I was a girl. The desire to prove them wrong was my introduction to the sport, so I did. The stress of schoolwork became overwhelming at times. The sport became a destresser and taught me patience and control on and off the field. Sportsmanship mattered, and my morals heavily influenced me. I began to self-reflect a lot, and it became a daily routine.
