Is cheating in school right? Everyday at school, I can see more and more people cheating off others, whether it be at lunch, over messaging, or even at the beginning of some classes. First off, cheating can break the code of conduct in many ways, like disrespecting others rights (i.e. teachers and/or other students), or by breaking general school policy. Secondly, cheating is specifically mentioned in the school guidelines and how it is considered “falsification” .
It’s for this reason that the students might give in to the prospect of succeeding in the class by foregoing the price of academic integrity. Students cheat in order to survive the growing pressure from parents; cheating is continuously getting out of hand due to the
Brianna Townes Comp 1 Ratliff 10/22/14 Cheating in College According to the Boston Globe, cheating in college has remained the same since first measured in the 60’s. You would think that over the years, as much as our culture has changed it would have increased. Especially with how easy it is to look up and copy things off of the internet. There are several reasons why kids want to cheat but sometimes what they don’t realize is cheating comes with consequences. While this may or may not tell us a little something about ourselves or just people in general, it clearly indicates that whatever is being done to stop cheating isn’t working.
Another idea, by Cris Tovani(2014) is that students cheat because they do not consider the material they are learning as important. Cris Tovani states in her article, How We Drive Students to Cheat, “It’s not like I’m ever going to use this stuff again”(Tovani 2). When students
College students are taking advantage of their access to technology in order to cheat in their online courses. Academic dishonesty, in schools, is gradually becoming more common. A study from 2006 mentioned how more than 70% of the scholars had seen a form of plagiarizing, which is believable since scholars that cheat more tend to see academic dishonesty occur frequently(Ma et al. ; Miller and Young-Jones). Learners use the cheating culture as a way to justify themselves so as to feel less guilty.
When a student cheats, especially those students that cheat often, they are essentially obtaining a false degree. In a worst case scenario, for example, a student were to cheat in their classes all through medical school, obtain a degree, and then become a doctor. They did get through school with a perfect GPA. But the problem is, this doctor has not retained any information and does not know how to perform a surgery. This is a far-fetched example, many people perhaps believe.
Another reason is because they tend to cheat. Lastly, paying students will only help in the short run not the long run. Paying a student is a horrible idea because it takes the motivation of learning from a student, they can cheat, and it only helps in the short run. First of all, schools should not pay students for good grades because they can lose their motivation to learn. Edward Deci says, “Most children are by nature motivated to learn,”.
Cheating the Future One of the most detrimental mistakes a student can make during his school career is cheating. Though often times the students know it is wrong, they are still compelled to cheat because of the pressures of making good grades. Because students are never taught the result of their actions until it is too late, cheating has become a commonplace in schools today. David Vesler, the author of “The One Minute Case Against Cheating”, presents a logical argument to dissuade students from cheating. Why is it important for students not to cheat?
You just became a young parent and there are a lot of things to do. Many kids in college are making unhealthy choices that are very time consuming. This makes it harder to attend class and be ready to learn. This would be a main reason why people are failing in college. These are the main reasons people are failing in college.
Griffin, and Stuart A.West, Toward an Evolutionary Definition of Cheating, states that cheating can be a purpose of deceiving one another. Another form of cheating is using an essay website where it could type essays for you, this can result in full plagiarism and many other major consequences. College students will communicate with other students for the homework assignments , copying it and thinking they’re done and are going to get the passing grade for that assignment. However , test results can show a whole different result and will lead to professors thinking how can a student do so well on the homework assignments and not the actual test. Therefore the professor could dig deeper and eventually find out your sources which can result into further consequences.
