The City of Mississauga Goes Digital - Case Study Questions
Describe the problems the City of Mississauga hoped to address using digital technology.
The problem the City of Mississauga hoped to address using digital technology was to improve its “operations and services.” The City of Mississauga believes that technology should be easily accessed by all individuals regardless of their financial or educational circumstances. BYOD has many advantages which include familiarity, flexibility, and convenience. This advance made it possible for individuals to better connect with the up-to-date operations and decision-making aspects of the corporation. For example, the article states in chapter 2 on page 53, that the city has connected over 600 transit buses and 700 city vehicles including fire trucks, and snow plows, regarding routes and real-time locations. What management, organization, and technology issues did the City of Mississauga have to address in developing a solution?
Managerial, organizational and technological issues that the City of Mississauga addressed regarding the development of a solution include providing transit operators as well as behind-the-scenes working staff with technology that will improve business operations such as getting up-to-date, live routes as well as making decisions will help to improve business operations. There are many circumstances that may disrupt a transit vehicle while on the route, with these technological advances, both drivers, as well as passengers, are able to be well knowledged regarding the arrival and time of
She appeals to technology several times throughout the text allowing the audience recognise the issue. As technology continues to take a step forward, the community will quickly take that next step behind it to create more problems for families and young
As earlier stated, over the years people have become intact with technology thus society adapted to technology in their lives, making their lives easier. “Our use of the Net will only grow, and its impact on us will only strengthen, as it becomes even more present in our lives.” (92) The
The argument of Mayor Jones is flawed for many unwarranted assumptions. Primarily, the memorandum assumes that by building a subway system, the majority of motorists will start taking subways while travelling. The argument has also mentioned vague points regarding increase in worker productivity and flourishment of economy that needs further assessment. One of the major assumption of the argument is in assuming that motorists will start taking subways while going to work. Subway system will work as an alternative and would not be preferred by the entire working class.
Technology has improved communication by giving people real time updates, being able to communicate and interact with others worldwide faster. Although communication can be beneficial, there are negative effects as well. As Clarisse addresses the reality of society to Montag she explains that “No one has time any more for anyone else” (Part1 Page 11) anymore. Technology has caused isolation, obesity, lack of social skills, depression, increase in bullying, and pollution. With the internet being available at home, many tends to go on their devices than interacting with
Lindsay Wickman writes about the formal and informal use of how technology over the years has shaped our government and our overall system of actions to how we adapt to it. Susan Benesch writes about the
In order to be a great Big Canada contest you need to be a good competitor, having amazing social skills and be able to strategize, I know that I abstain all of those skills. I love competition I have played competitive sports for all my life so I know what it takes to win a competition and work as a team. In this game you need other people to in order to make it far in the games, therefore competitive sports has taught me how to be a team player and use people to your advantage. Secondly, you need good social skills to survive in the house, I think my ability to persuade people into believing me or going with my ideas is pretty good.

As the population has grown and diversified, the region has become a complex society, characterized by a range of hallmarks that reflect its dynamic and multifaceted nature. In this paper, we will explore some of the key hallmarks of complex societies in Kitchener-Waterloo, focusing on aspects such as economic development, social diversity, and urbanization. The Toronto 18 case also known as “The Battle of Toronto” that was named by the terrorist group back in the year 2005. The ringleader Zakaira Amara of the Toronto 18 case confessed it as the mimic to the 9/11. That group’s main task included crippling the economy and unleashing mass carnage, terror and destruction in downtown Toronto. The method being used included a number trucks loaded with tones of fertilizer bomb material and detonating them at the Canadian broadcasting center, the Canadian parliament building, the Canadian security intelligence services building and the parliamentary peace tower to take hostage of the building and ending up with the beheading of the Canadian ministers and including the Canadian prime minister at that time.
Joseph Christopher ENGL 1302 3T28 Technology:The Downfall or the uprising? Different technologies have been developed throughout the passage of time, they have almost always provided some kind of large benefit for the user, but often times these kind of things come with their own downside, and in the articles "A Death on Facebook: Intimacy and Loss in the Age of Social Media" by Kate Bolick and "Death: The End We All Have to Face(book) by Christine Martorana they explain 2 different situations and ways technology has affected us in recent years and them main points in which the issues reside in today's intricate systems inner workings of the average day to day. In The article Death: The End We All Have to Face, the author, Christine Martorana,
Arthur C. Clarke once said that “any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” His words, intended to celebrate the power and positive contributions of technology, are fitting to describe the positive, life-changing impacts that technology has had in Canada. While some still complain about technological advances, Canadians are embracing all that technology has to offer and are adapting to both the technology and the necessary changes it requires in education, health care, tourism and hospitality and job skills training for a robust economy. The “open to change” mindset of Canadians will undoubtedly serve our young country well in the future, as we explore our potential and poise ourselves to become leaders and learners
Additionally, operations are often conducted away from the office, or in austere environments utilizing mobile broadband and laptop computer. Having access to the organizations data in an organized efficient manner is essential. Finally, a centralized knowledge management system allows organizations to share and collaborate much
They allow the user to plug in mass amount s of data, and can analyze them to learn complex patterns and relationships that humans simply couldn’t process. It would allow the city planner to analyze things such as where are the bus tops are at highest/lowest usage, are any bus routes overlapping in locations, are passengers having to make bus route switches at higher rates that others, and so much more. It will allow the city to determine what they are doing right and what they can improve on, so they can alter the different pieces to make a better experience for the riders. Next, I recommend the use of predictive analysis tools. These tools use statistics, data mining, historical data, and assumptions of the future to predict the behavior patterns of consumers in the future.
While providing significant positive environmental effects, the idea of the large tech companies bussing their employees creates some negative externalities. The idea of bussing has become problematic in the Bay Area. Many of the employees want to live in the city and work in the bay. So the companies offer free buses to transport employers from the city to the Bay. The buses can be extremely loud and travel on roads/have stops serviced by San Francisco’s Muni buses.
In terms of innovation Bus Éireann is continuous improving their facilities in the fleets and increasing the routes that operates in Ireland. At the vein, it is offered a free Wi-Fi on all Express services, the possibility of buying the ticket online and the iPhone Mobile Travel App that gives customer information of when exactly the next bus will arrive and the different stops. However, the differentiation between this firm and the competitors is found in the role of the Human Resources, which puts a remarkable focus on training for staff in all the areas, and there are minimum requirements to apply to some
In conclusion, technology can have negative impacts on today’s people in many ways. It is harmful to people’s well-being, makes people lose physical connections with those around them, and it makes students disregard their work. Technology is everywhere in today’s society. These devices can be so harmful to people without them even knowing it. People should be more aware of what technology can do, and try their best not to depend on
