The first president of our country was George Washington, and although he was an impeccable leader, not the best when set side to Abraham Lincoln. Few individuals might say Washington was the best because he had originated the Citizen President. "He showed his tremendous leadership skills on the field of battle," (Weston 4), and also served in the French and Indian war, however he still does not compare to Lincoln. (Pederson, William 57) I believe that Abraham Lincoln should be ranked first among the other leaders of the US. He has born from a humble family and worked his way to become the 16th President in 1860. He faced some obstacles when he was the president, however, due to his prowess in leadership he was able to overcome them by undertaking some changes that existed in the society and made the United States a better compared to other places. Lincoln signed the Homestead Act in 1862.

To boost his credentials, Jackson ran for and won election to the U.S. Senate the following year Jacksons's two main opponents were John Quincy Adams and William H. Crawford. To me, Andrew Jackson is more of a hero. One reason I believe Andrew Jackson is a hero is because he worked hard to empower the common people. The source: Thomas Bailey and David Kennedy, The American Pageant, 1994 states, “Jackson’s victory accelerated the transfer of national power from the country house to the farmhouse, from the East to the West, from the snobs to the mobs. Did you ever know that Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, was the first commoner ever to be elected president? Before he was elected in 1828, his supporters helped him win the nation’s voters. They helped him create more of a democratic type of government. A good democracy consists of a strong leader who is organized and fair. A strong leader makes decisions with the help of the other branches and the votes of the people.
