St. Benedict was a very important man in the middle ages. He was a role model to monks and an angel of God. St. Benedict was born in C. 480 and died 21st of March 543. After his death, he was very much missed so there is a shrine for him in Monte Cassino Abbey with his burial site. Through his life he founded 12 monasteries and was the Abbot of Cassino Abbey. Saint Benedict was an important part of The Middle Ages because of The Rules of St. Benedict, founder of Western Monasticism, and most of the order in the churches link back to St. Benedict.

The first reason St. Benedict was important in The Middle Ages is because he had a set of rules the monks had to follow living under the authority of the abbot called the Rule of Benedict. The Rule of Benedict had a total of Seventy-three short chapters explaining the monk's rules. These set of rules were followed by Benedictines for fifteen centuries. His rule was made for individual people and Benedictines homes are self-governed even to today. Charlemagne had the set of rules copied and given to everyone in Western Europe.
