Why Pit Bulls Are Being Banned
Pit Bulls are known for their intelligence, courageousness and obedience. Once refereed to as the “nanny dog” for their good-natured ability to play and interact with children, as well as their loyalty. To some this is their point of view; others see Pit Bulls as viscous, threating, and deadly dogs (Dogs Bite). From coast to coast here in the United States of America and all across the globe, Pit Bulls are being banned. I will be giving facts on both sides of this epic controversy that is becoming a very big situation around the world. Small towns and certain counties are in the same effect. Internationally, the U.K, Australia, Ireland, Spain, and Canada have joined the movement on banning this breed (Phillips).
Pitt Bulls attack for no earthly reason. When they attack a child or elderly person, the result is usually death. Why would anyone want to own a pet that has been bred to kill? Making the breed harder to own would stop some of the indiscriminate breeding and selling (Phillips).
Pit Bulls can be very loyal and loving to their owners, but they are also powerful and have a natural instinct to attack other dogs and humans. Every day, people are attacked by Pit Bulls. A Pit Bull attack isn’t like any other. They grip on to their prey, and refuse to let go. Pit Bulls have a way of biting, which is called “bating”; the Pit Bull will bite and will not release until the victim is dead. Pit Bulls were bred to kill dogs in dog fights. If Pit Bulls were banned, then dog owners who wanted dogs that could fight would just train another dog breed, such as German Shepherds, to do the very same thing, and then no progress in safety would be made. We all need to stop blaming the dog, and start blaming the owner. In that case, banning Pit Bulls would really make no progress. We have to see that Pit Bulls are not inherently dangerous (Dog Debate). They have a connotation of being dangerous so more people who want dangerous dogs train them to be this way. Experts agree that with proper training, Pit Bulls are just as safe as any other dog breed (Dog Debate). Just because Pit Bulls attack more than any other dog doesn’t mean that they attack a lot or are dangerous a large length in time. The volume of Pit Bull attacks have prompted many insurers to deny coverage associated with homeowner’s insurance.
