We’re loyalists, and here we are telling our story. Loyalists have British protection, British support, and are reasonable in decision making. By 1781 if you were neutral you were considered a loyalist. The British protects us from multiple situations. The Britain army has 800,000 men, with at least 20,000 volunteers from the colonists. If a rebel officer attacks us the British army with set a target of them alone. With the British protection we will always be at ease. The British supports our small businesses, like the taverns we run. New York raised
Dinner Debate: The War of 1812 Opening Statement We are having problems with the British which is causing us to suffer as a country. This is not fair. We, as Americans, believe in fairness, and we stand together, united, when the times get rough. The British should pay for their actions, but this is not the right time, we must be prepared first.
The American Revolution, also known as the American Revolutionary War, was a war between the Great Britain and the 13 British colonies. This war, took place between the years 1775 through 1783. This war was caused by many reasons. One of them being due to the French and Indian war, which made the complication between the British empire and the colonists of north America increase furthermore. 5) During the Revolutionary War, some Colonists wanted to remain loyal to the King while others did not. Give reasons for this. During the American Revolution people were often either Patriots or Loyalists. Patriots were people who wanted the American Colonies to be independence from Britain.
Out of all the probable perspectives for neutrality one should acknowledge that the newly resettled New Englanders, in Nova Scotia, had to consider their situations. Although they did bear the same plight and oppression as the American rebels, a lot of them had loved ones on both sides of the spectrum, both on the side of power and resistance. Taking a side would pin family against family and friend against friend. Another reason to take notice of for Nova Scotia deciding to be and remain neutral, is the British Naval base in Halifax, which certainly played its part, made an impression and posed as a reminder of Nova Scotia’s dependency on the King and England. The British Naval base also deterred the Americans from invading and kept a
On the topic of Loyalists, we your humble advisors, believe that your Royal Highness should maintain safety and enhance loyalty within the colonies. But, this was not possible without the support from the common people. There was no doubt that, common man was not happy with the British rule but still they were not favor of arms rebellion against British rule.
The British army in this battle, led by General Cornwallis, had caused the allies 72 deaths and 180 injured. Of course Commander Washington’s army left the British with more damage, killing 156 and leaving 326 wounded. After all of those men were wounded and killed, the rest of Cornwallis’ army, 7,018 men were taken in as prisoner to the continental army. Cornwallis surrendered on October 19, 1781. First off, many Native Americans had to choose sides when war erupted. Many of the tribes sided with the Americans; however, a majority of them supported the British. England promised to protect native lands from encroaching American Colonists. Both sides begged the Native Americans to keep their noses out of the conflict. But by 1776, both sides courted the Iroquois Confederacy.
As a Patriot, I believe that Britain is a very cruel country that is ruining our lives. With the high taxes and the harsh laws, they are just taking our money and our ability to live our lives on our own, without any force from anyone else. I want my fellow colonists to live a life without pain and suffering. I would like them to live a free life, not a life controlled by the British. Would you like to life a life where you are forced to pay high taxes to a king who is abusing power?
In the popular case of The American Revolution, Great Britain was the conventional army while the 13 colonies sought for freedom but knew their militias couldn’t take on Britain’s forces one on one. There were guerilla bands of volunteer soldiers used to even out the odds of battles and would drive the British down to uneven battlegrounds and temporarily restrict the movement of supplies. Guerilla tactics were used early on in the war, not any later than the Battles of Lexington and Concord and seemed to carry out throughout the war. The guerillas in the American Revolution were thought to be like a swarm of mosquitoes bothering you; they won’t kill you but they might drive you away (Muscato). It may be true that The American Revolution wasn’t won by Guerilla warfare alone but it did make for a motivating factor for Britain to step
Prior to the American Revolution, history had shown cases of tyrannical governments taking advantage of the people. In most cases these tyrannical governments were shown no mercy and many times they were overthrown. For the American Colonies and the British Government this was completely different. It was different in the way that the American Colonies had shown great dislike for the lack of representation, taxes, and its plain disrespect from its mother land.
Two prominent political groups among the American colonists played vital roles in pushing towards a war. These two political groups are the Patriots and the Loyalists. Both groups were gearing towards war, but the Patriots was the group that was known to portray violence. With Britain raising taxes more than double within a years time, it angered Patriots. The patriots felt that the taxes just continued to threaten land ownership.
One time the British passed a law that allowed the british soldiers to forcefully live in the colonists’ home! The colonies started out to benefit Great Britain, but after one war and lots of laws, the colonies were going to be part of a revolution. What was the American Revolution about? Economic Rights or Civil Liberties? On one hand the British instilled unfair regulations on trade and goods.
British policies established in 1763-1776 greatly affected the colonists and pushed them towards developing their own republican values. All of the acts and taxes the British issued and how overly controlling the British were over the colonists was the starting point, also the increasing rebellions encouraged the colonists to break away from Britain’s rule, and finally the wars that resulted and seizing authority from the British was the final turning point for the colonists in eliminating Britain’s heavy-handed ruling over the colonists. The acts, and taxes that came with most of the acts, that the English imposed on the colonists was a substantial reason the colonists opposed British rule. After the French and Indian war the British found
By the end of the war, the loyalty that the Colonies had to England was gone. Before the war the Colonist would 've done anything for Britain and would fight till the death for them. This could be seen for the many wars that the Colonist aid England in even though they didn’t why they were fighting. In Document C, George Washington wrote a letter to Robert Orme showing his dying love to be in service for General Braddock and the British empire quoting, “ believing a more favourable opportunity cannot offer, than to serve under a Gentleman of General Braddock’s abilities and experience”. Serving for British could have one of the most honorable thing that the Colonist could have done.
