Although he was happy at the beginning when he did not have a care in the world, Will Freedman was a rather flat and boring character with no purpose but by the end of the novel he was considerably more dynamic because of the family he had created with Marcus and Fiona. Initially Will the last person to be thought of as a father figure. As a matter of fact, being a father was the farthest idea from his mind, and he believed that he was content this way.
