Will Stoneman isn't the usual hero you hear about. But he for sure is a hero in peoples eyes. When he gets excepted to college that's a great thing then a tragedy occurred. Will Stoneman's father passed. Since his father was the one who took care of his mother and the farm. Of course will himself was the man left to take that responsibility. So will join the dog sled race and realize he had to take responsibility taking his father's place now that he is no longer there to contribute to the farm.
