Going through hard times in life is what makes you who you are. Without these things you would be a completely different person. Willa Cather once said, “ The end is nothing; the climb is all.” Cather is absolutely right. Whether it be a sports game, or your sophomore year in high school the work and effort is what really counts. The end result is meaning less if it is just handed to you. The more work you put in and the more sacrifices you make means the more sweet the victory will be. The meaning of the quote by Willa Cather is that the end result of something isn’t what is important, but what you learned and experienced on the way. Everybody dies. That is a simple fact that not everybody understands. The end of your life means nothing;
Maria Boyd’s novel “Will” clearly demonstrates and showcases multiple existing values, beliefs and ideologies. One such theme which we constantly see is that of depression. Throughout the novel, this theme is challenged and developed on. One such example Will, the protagonist, and his one sided conversations with his deceased father. This constant reminiscence of his father are only present in the latter half of the book when the theme of depression is much more prevalent.
Any obstacle or disadvantage may be turned into something good if you really want to change what the situation is. In the book “The Glass Castle” Jeannette Walls went through a plethora of obstacles and disadvantages in her life that caused dilemmas for her, yet they never stopped her. In the book “ The Outsider” just by the fact of being born a greaser was already a disadvantage and there was still more obstacles to come, but that didn’t stop Ponyboy from trying to change his situation for better. Some people say that usually when you’re in a difficult situation where there are many obstacles and disadvantages in your way, you should either give up or just move to somewhere else where the situation is easier. I’ve heard this from more people than I can count and there are still many more with different ideas, but that lead to the same conclusion as said above.
Death Comes for the Archbishop, by Willa Cather, revolves around the story of Bishop Jean Marie Latour, his death, and his legacy. Cather uses Latour as a vessel in order to display the world around him. It’s through him we learn about New Mexico, the people, and the visuals he encounters. He describes various legends, Indian traditions, religions Catholic Priests beliefs, and scenery as he travels along his spiritual journey reflecting on his new location. Latour’s point of view on New Mexico is filtered through his experiences, which is how Cather gains her audience.
“There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time,” Malcolm X, and activist overcame adversity by learning from his defeat. Adversity affects our world today too. With our harsh rules and drive to be better, one must strive to succeed and overcome the hardships. While there are many qualities needed to overcome adversity, having faith, keeping composure, and receiving support are vital in order to overcome adversity.
Not everyone has a perfect life in today’s world. Many of us have gone through hardships or, are going through rocky times. Kelly Clarkson once sang,”What doesn't kill you makes you stronger” and that's exactly what i'm going to prove. Hard times don’t always destroy you and make you stronger as a person. Joe rantz, and Olympic rower for the 1936 Olympics, had many hardships in his life.
In the book “O Pioneers!” Willa Cather discusses her views on the three philosophies of life. She makes it clear as to which one she personally adheres, from a Realistic, Romantic and Naturalistic view of the world. Cather uses many circumstances of each type of philosophy. Willa uses Romanticism lots of times in her story.
My journey through tough hope has affected me in many ways like this one. When I didn 't make the baseball team I really wanted to make. I was really upset and mad with myself for not making the team. I didn 't practice hard enough to make the team.
Hardship is an endeavor no person yearns for, and logically it’s fathomable why we’d steer away from difficulties. However, one can only value what they have when they’ve survived the unimaginable, because without hardships we’d be oblivious to the triumphs in life. History is an abyss of unfortunate events, nevertheless we have conquered every setback. The civil war, for example, was one of the United States most traumatic times. Much can be said about the bloodiest four years in american history, but overall in order to find harmony between the divided sides, we had to fight battle by battle for a cause that, with all the gruesome sacrifices no longer seemed worth it.
My Ántonia – Fact or Fiction? The narrator describes her childhood town as “..buried in wheat and corn, under stimulating extremes of climate: burning summers when the world lies green and billowy beneath a brilliant sky…in the colour and smell of strong weeds and heavy harvest; blustery winters with little snow, when the whole country is stripped bare and grey as sheet-iron (Cather, Introduction).” Within the novel “My Ántonia,” the author, Willa Cather creates a fictional character Jim Burden whose childhood experiences seems to mirror Cather’s own life. This heartwarming story, written in autobiographical form, tells a tale of two very different people thrust together in similar circumstances during a vulnerable time in both of their lives.
Learning how to face your hardships and succeed They are negative situations that can compel an impact in your life and could teach you to become better than what you are and push you to succeed in life. Tragedy and hardships act as sources of motivation for betterment and perseverance. Teenagers often have to endure hardship and tragedies that motivate them to better themselves.
Barriers throughout someone’s lifetime could shatter them, or help them to build and become a better person. Either way, it is a decision one makes on their own. Some people’s hardships are worse than others, but that does not mean it was not tough for them to handle. Conflicts could even help shape the person going through a tough time. Simone Biles was determined to become stronger from her challenges, mentally and physically.
Michael Phelps, a professional swimmer, once said, “There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, there are no limits,” (¨AZ Quotes¨). This quotes shows that throughout one’s journey they will eventually have to go against many obstacles, and have to find a a way to get through them.
Willa Cather Young love is often exhilarating. Its fresh and new, nothing can slow it down. In My Antonia, Jimmy and Antonia fall in love at a young age but grow apart as they get old and go separate ways. Responsibility came in and occupied their lives. Jimmy grew old and tired, resulting in him being lethargic.
The results we can gain from perseverance can be essential in the future. Sometimes giving up seems like the best thing to do but if an individual can fight through the difficult times to get to the finish line, they will become even stronger of a person then they started. When someone continuously is facing more and more difficult challenges it can seem unnecessary, but it 's not. When one reaches their goal and looks back at what it took to get there it 'll be worth it. In the end, they 'll be stronger mentally and physically because they were tested at every bend in the road.
In our life, there are periods of challenges that we must face, but the real challenge is how we grow and learn from overcoming them. Being naive children, we believed that life was simplistic and effortless. Well, we were wrong, we can only yearn for life to be easy. Growing up, we continue to face countless hurdles that only get bigger and bigger. My life, in particular, has been filled with numerous up and downs.
