Name of student : Ethan Doeg Text Type - Title and Author : Lord of the Flies by William Golding In the novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding, a common theme shown throughout the text is the balance between good and evil inside of every human being. This story is more or less a tale of good vs evil, order vs chaos etc. This conflict is shown in the form of the two main character. Ralph, who is seen as a kind but assertive leader, who is orginally “voted in” as the leader of the pack of boys, and Jack, who is seen from the start as a very aggressive person who is only interested in hunting, forms his own tribe, who are very violent and malicious towards anything and everything. This text is allegorical, which means that many themes or ideas are carried in the forms of characters and objects, the main two I will be focusing on is the antagonist and …show more content…
The first concept that portrays this theme is the character of Ralph. From the very beginning of the novel, he is seen as the clear leader of all the boys, which is represented in the fact of him getting voted to be the leader at the election the boys have to decide on who will lead them. An example of how Ralph is seen as a leader of the boys at the beginning of the story is “‘Fire on the Mountain.’ Ralph tells the boys, ‘If we have a signal going, they'll come and take us off. And another thing. We ought to have more rules. Where the conch is, that's a meeting. The same up here as down there.’” This is said by Ralph in chapter 2, and this quote shows that he has taken initiative to help keep order within the group of boys, and is also thinking of ways to get them rescued sooner rather than later, which is what any good leader in this situation would do. He is the protagonist of this novel, and is seen as the representation of law and order as such, as he is one of the
The book opens with a description of Ralph, he is a fair boy, well-built, and community-minded. He is chosen as leader or “chief” because he is the one who blows the conch to gather the surviving boys. Throughout the beginning of the book Ralph's leadership is shown to be very responsible and the desire to have rules. He has good communication skills with the boy by letting them voice their opinions and always sharing his. He recognizes the importance of building shelters and always has a signal fire on.

People are bad they do so many bad things. They steal and kill other people so that they get what they want. I believe that humans are bad because they kill and steal. William Golding’s novel Lord of the Flies shows that humans are bad through killing one another. In the Lord of the Flies Simon is calling out to everyone saying that the beast is not real.
In the first chapter we witness the boys having a democratic vote to decide who would be the leader, Ralph was chosen. Ralph wanted establish a large amount of rules “we’ve got to have rules and obey them. We’re english, and the english are the best at everything”(42)
The society they built within the first meeting held every boy accountable for something within the group, to keep it fair. Whether it was a huge role like Jack leading the tribe or a smaller role like the Littluns holding the power in numbers as the lower class, every role was important. The author made a point to the reader that each character had a specific job in helping the civilization; Jack was the power hungry hunter, Ralph was the motivated leader, and the “Littluns” was the lower class with the biggest
In this scene, Ralph explains how important rules are. He takes extra time to talk and communicate with the boys to help them understand the importance of rules. In chapter two Ralph comments, ‘“We’ve got to have rules and obey them. After all, we’re not savages.” ’
Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a novel that revolves around the concept of civilization versus savagery. The boys argue about points that eventually split the boys amongst themselves. These disputes come up multiple times over the course of the novel. One of which being the fight over the leader of the boys. Some believed the leader should be Jack while others believed it should be Ralph.
William Golding’s Lord of the Flies portrays the author’s war experience through his characters: Ralph, Piggy, Simon, and Jack as allegories. Ralph posed as democracy and order, Piggy represented the intellect, Simon was the allegory of religion, and Jack was taken as corrupt power. Although, Golding focuses how society struggles when the foundation of civilization, which include morals, gradually deteriorates. This is illustrated by narrating English boys who are deserted on an island, especially Jack Merridew who is introduced as the tall, thin, red-headed leader of a choir group.
This quote shows how Ralph establishes the rules of the conch. The power of the conch keeps the children civilized in their meetings by keeping them calm and orderly. The group of boys are very obedient and respect the rules that are set by
“Either wandering breezes or perhaps the decline of the sun allowed a little coolness to lie under the trees.” Certainly, this is a quote from William Golding's book “Lord of The Flies”. The book is about a group of schoolboys who were put on a plane escaping from the next war, and crashed on a deserted island with no adult supervision doing whatever they want, but a leader is chosen for the group and things go bad when it all gets unorganized. In most literature like“Lord of The Flies” by Golding, authors will use literary devices in their writing to convey meaning into their work.
In a world of distress, the one thing that covers the troubles of the world is social order. In Lord of the Flies by William Golding, the boys' failing society proves this theory. With out social order, the boys are overcome with savagery. When the boys first gather on the island, respect is given, especially to Ralph, who has the conch. But when Jack and the choir meet Ralph's group, there is tension between the boys, though it is quickly brushed off as they assess the situation they are in.
William Golding starting writing at the young age of twelve and as a consequence, the novel, Lord of the Flies was published in 1954. Golding parents disapproved of the occupation of a writer and urged him to concentrate on a different profession. As a result of this, Golding focused on natural sciences, until the second year at University of Oxford. His focal point fell back into place of English Literature. In 1940 Golding participated in the navy.
Everyone has this underlying darkness within them that is hidden away deep inside the nooks and crannies of their hearts. Golding demonstrates this through the use of his major characters, Ralph and Jack. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, the author William Golding utilizes character development to suggest the idea that when individuals are separated from civilization, dark forces will arise and threaten unity and harmony. Golding presents the protagonist, Ralph, who is decently intelligent and completely civilized, to demonstrate how once individuals are pulled away from civilization, the dark forces within them will arise and change how they are for the time being.
In the book The Lord of the Flies we can see that many conflicts happen while the kids are in the island, most of these conflicts are struggled to be solved. The main conflict and the one that I 'm going to be talking about is the conflict between Ralph and Jack, were both boys compete for power. Ralph is more civilized and tries to make a fire and build tents while Jack is more of a savage who uses violence and wants to hunt all the time. Its is easy to see that in this literary piece the author uses many conflicts to make the reader visualize wants happening in the island. Ralph is voted by the boys to be the leader of the group, in the book he represents leadership, civilization and order.
Have you ever been in a stressful situation? Due to the bombings near the area three and a half million people were relocated.
