He was the first child of John and Mary Shakespeare’s to live past infancy. He was baptized three days after his birth in Stratford-upon-Avon, located one-hundred miles northwest of London. This information was found at http://www.folger.edu/shakespeares-life which states that, “We know that he was baptized in Stratford-upon-Avon, 100 miles northwest of London, on April 26, 1564.” “William Shakespeare was probably born on about April 23, 1564, the date that is traditionally given for his birth.
