William Shakespeare was an English poet and playwright who is considered one of the greatest writers to ever use the English language (“William Shakespeare his life...” 2015). Known for many of his great works containing poems, plays, and sonnets dating back to 1592. “He was a man of his times, writing for his contemporaries on topics that were the hot-button issues of his day” (Tumiel, 2017). In the times during Shakespeare’s birth there were events taking place such as the age of protestant reformation and the Renaissance, contributing to his works. The protestant age consisted of Catholics beginning to question and part ways with their traditional religious beliefs. These people became known as protestants in their protest against the Catholic church. The Renaissance is the rebirth of classical architecture, ideas, and paintings from Greek and Roman culture. The protestant reformation had an effect on every person in England, and for Shakespeare it contributed to his work. The renaissances also having an effect on Shakespeare’s works by influencing his knowledge on Roman and Greek culture and updating his writing style. Above all, Shakespeare wasn’t eulogized and buried in Westminster Abbey which leads to the consensus that the actors and writers of his day knew that he was Shakespeare otherwise he would have been buried there in poets corner (Price, 2013 p. 43). In Shakespeare’s will, the original found in 1747 by Reverend Joseph Greene, there is no sign of it being one of the greatest writers will as it was described to be dull. The will didn’t display that it wasn’t written by a write much less a great poet and playwright such as Shakespeare. The adaption of the 1967 film “The Taming of the Shrew.” by Franco Zeffirelli, was a good adaption to the original play “The Taming of the Shrew.” by William Shakespeare, because the dialogue, and the scenes are followed well. Although going from a book to a film, you will always have some differences. In this case the alterations between the film, and the original play were minuscule. When you are reading a book, and then watching a movie, you can sometimes find yourself confused as to what is going on. In watching the film “ The Taming of the Shrew.” I did not find myself getting lost very often.

He produced several plays and poems as well as masques. He
