Then he went to talk with Cherry and he ask her If she already went to see Johnny but she said that “she couldn’t never see the person who killed her boyfriend”. Ponyboy got mad and told her “you’re a traitor to your own kind and not loyal to fus. Do you think your spying for us makes up the fact that you are sitting there in a Corvette while your brother drops out of school to get a job”.
Johnny says if he wouldn’t have killed him than they would have drowned you aka (Ponyboy) and beat me up. After this they call Dally and he goes picks them up and takes them to a Church outside of town. They hide out here for awhile until Dallas comes to check up on them. He tells them ever since Bob 's death the greasers and socials rivalry amplified and there is going to be a big fight the next day. Johnny and Ponyboy say they want to go for the fight and on there way back to town they turn around and see the church was burning.
After Johnny had killed Bob, and they ran away, Johnny says something to Ponyboy in the church that surprises him. After Johnny left to get supplies, he says, “We’re gonna cut our hair, and your gonna bleach yours.” (71) Johnny saying this, shows that he is starting to take action after what had happened at the park. It shows that reality is hitting Johnny, and this actually makes him slightly tougher in a way. Johnny, being a shy person usually doesn’t take action to solve the problem at han, but by doing this, it shows he is less soft and more hardy than we thought. This fact is illustrated well during the moment when Willy was fired. As the play continues, Ben appears and Willy submits that there is nothing that he tried and worked out in his favor, and therefore he did not know what to do. Immediately during this context, Linda appears and convinces Willy to stick to sales the way Dave Singleman does. The encouragement by Linda gave him hopes to believe that he can be successful like Singleman.
