Wind energy is a form of clean energy. The Worldwatch Institute estimates that wind energy could easily power 20 to 30 percent of the electricity needed by many countries. Even though wind energy only provides us with less than 2 percent of the world’s energy. Wind energy is harnessed by using turbines. The turbines propellers are pushed by the wind and that causes a generator to operate and produces electricity. The generator is connected to a shaft, whenever the wind pushes the blades, the blades cause the shaft to spin and that produces the electricity.
There are many benefits of wind energy, such as wind energy is clean energy, it uses almost no water and it pumps billions of dollars into our economy every year. In 2012, wind energy helped

The biggest wind turbines have blades with a span greater than that of a football field, stand more than 20 stories high, and have enough electricity to power 1,400 houses. A small wind turbine suited for homes have blades with a length of 8 to 25 in diameter and stands 30 feet tall. A big wind turbine will produce from 50 to 750 kilowatts; a kilowatt is a measure of 1,000 watts of electrical power. The biggest wind turbines cn be used for many things such as powering homes, powering satellite dishes, and pumping water.
The advantages of using wind energy is that it is renewable, you can us use as much as you want and it’s not going to run out. Unlike any usual power plant, wind farms release no pollutants. In 1990 California’s wind power plants emitted more than 2.5 billion pounds of carbon dioxide, and 15 million pounds of other pollutants that could have been produced. It would take millions and millions of trees to provide the same air quality.Although a disadvantage of wind energy is that the wind doesn’t always blow in certain areas so the amount of wind turbines may be limited due to the absece of

By the year 200 B.C. simple windmills were used for pumping water. Later on around 1000 B.C the wind power advances spread throughout the European countries such as The Netherlands. The dutch started using windmills to drain lakes and marshes in the Rhine river delta. In the late 1890’s steel blades were added to windmills making wind energy easier to obtain. Unfortunately in the 1950’s many wind turbines in the US were shut down due to misuse.
An unfortunate event that occurs is the many birds are also killed by these wind turbines. On average over 573,000 birds are killed yearly by wind turbines. The majority of birds that are killed are often eagles, hawks, owls, falcons, and many other birds. Bats are also victims of these wind turbines, over 10,000 bats are killed in Pennsylvania yearly. Although the blades appear to be moving very slowly they can reach speeds up to 179 mph, at this speed it can easily harm any kind of bird. This happens because usually eagles, hawks, or falcons are looking downward for prey and they do not see the oncoming
And at night the glare from the planes brightly lights up his farm. As a result of the noise and light of these planes, Thomas Lee Causby was forced to give up their chicken business. As many as six to ten of their chickens were killed in one day by flying into the walls from fright. The total chickens lost in all this destruction caused by the planes was about 150.
Throughout the film The Birds the viewers witnessed a great deal of Mise en scene which was great to interpret. On August 18, 1961, people in the town of Capitola, California, woke up to find Shearwaters slamming into their rooftops, and their streets
In chapter three of “No Promises in the Wind” the train stopped in a town late in the afternoon. The bulls (as called in the book) are the men who are sent to get the free riders off of the train, but after the accident the bulls were nowhere to be seen. Everyone on the trains were able to get off on their own accord, because there were no bulls around. In the town’s depot no one paid any attention to them. Joey’s face was red and swollen because of all the crying he had done.
The Cold Birds The imagery of the short story “The Birds,” by Daphne du Maurier, illustrates that these birds are trying to get inside of Nat’s house for the purpose of terrorizing them. “Various incidents were recounted, the suspected reason of cold and hunger started again, and warnings to the householders repeated” (61). This quote shows that the birds are somehow trying to give Nat and his family warnings by tapping on his windows before the attacks and after the repeated attacks. “The tapping went on and on and a new rasping note struck Nat’s ear as though a sharper beak than any hitherto had come back to take over from its fellows” (75). This quote shows that the birds are constantly giving Nat and his family warnings and the birds
Though the ending from both book and movie is quite vague, this allows many theories from fans. Overall, The Birds is a great show of horror and how man will never truly beat nature, it is a great movie and story especially for it’s time. The Birds is set in Bodega Bay in the 1960’s and follows an underlying
Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters contemplate this disturbing discovery, and they wonder who else could be capable of this act of violence. They know Mrs. Wright surely did not do it, as she cared for the bird greatly, she even “used to sing real pretty herself” and the women have already concluded “she would’ve liked a bird.” That leaves Mr. Wright, and due to the fact that he broke the birdcage, it is only reasonable that he killed the bird as well. This realization that the women make leads them to what the men have been searching for all day, a motive. Mr. Wright likes the quiet, so he killed the singing canary which happens to be the only thing bringing happiness to Mrs. Wright.
The turbines have to be a certain number of feet in the air. Are there trees, buildings and other obstacles that would block the wind? Is there a fast flowing waterway in which you would have rights and access to so you can install hydro generators if needed? Fourth Concern: Natural Disasters Is the property in a flood zone? Zones change all the time, and even if not in a so-called flood zone is there a chance the property could be flooded.
(173). This shows his nihilistic behaviour which he likely did just for an excuse to beat him. The Bird has been known to “eavesdrop on men, and beat those who mentioned him” (177). This action shows the Bird’s inhumanity brought out on him in the war. He degraded people until they wished they were dead.
In the story, the birds are attacking Nat by crashing threw the window. Du Maurier writes, “He shut the window and went back to bed, but feeling his knuckles wet, put his mouth to the scratch. The bird had drawn blood” (2). This shows the birds are going to be a problem because they are attacking Nat and his
Rough Draft My friend Jacob hates birds with a passion, and it’s all because of one bad experience he had over five years ago. In June of 2012, Jacob and his family went to the Honolulu Zoo in Hawaii. there was an exhibit in the zoo that you could walk into and contained a pond with a sitting area and an assortment of geese and ducks. As Jacob and his family walked in, the goose closest to the door ran up and bit Jacob on the leg.
The bird was sick for a while with a very high fever and stomach problems but bad luck for the guards. The bird was able to pull through and survive. Another cost of war infections and diseases. In the camp POWS would go through infections and sickness from starvation.
It uses flowing water to generate electricity. It does this by using dams and reservoirs for storage. This method gives us the most electricity rather than any other renewable energy source. Not only do the dams and reservoirs create electricity, they also control flooding (Sambu). Hydropower is the least expensive procedure to generate electricity.
The acts that the Bird did to the POWs shows that he wanted to haunt them in their dreams and drive them to the point of insanity: “Watanabe combined beatings with acts meant to batter men’s psych’s” (243). By saying this, Hillenbrand gives readers a picture of a sadistic man who received some type of enjoyment by terrifying the
In the film there was a scene where the birds attacked a small part of the town while many citizens where at a restaurant and nearly killed half of the towns people which supports the belief of the town being too small to survive the birds. With the arrival of the birds it causes such a good living environment to become a dangerous horror scene and with the city being so small there is nowhere to hide and take cover. Also, it makes it easy for thousands of birds to invade and take over their city. With there being nowhere to avoid the birds and isolate yourself from them it causes the situation to be impossible to overcome. With no one being able to find safety readers become worried and scared which is why this is reflective.
Two of those deaths include Annie Hayworth, and Dan Forsett. They both had the same gruesome feature, their eyeballs had been pecked out. The point where everyone in the down realizes that the birds
