Over a hundred years ago, the first Olympics was held in Athens. The event featured 280 participants from 13 nations, competing in 43 events. While the Olympics has shown to improve the public spirit within countries, no one would believe that “games” could have such a big part in lives in all countries. Since 1994, the Summer and Winter Olympic Games have been held separately and have alternated every two years. That would explain the 1980 and the 1984 summer and winter Olympics were tougher and not how people of today came to know. There are 15 winter games and one would cause memory that would never be forgotten.

1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The reason for the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan was to strengthen the communist government against the growing insurgency of People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan. After these action 65 nation boycotted the Olympics games and 80 countries sent athletes to be in the competition. Why does it matter? How does affect US? Well US was a part of the boycott and it changes the way people saw America. Behind the seen US had problem with Central Asia, so they started to have some presser on the Soviet Union to back out of Afghanistan. The problem at hand will stand that no one will go to Moscow and some countries took it to the next step by not allowing any athlete to go. When women first earned their right to compete in the Olympics, they still had to fight and regulate the games to be allowed to compete in all sports. 2012 was the first year that women competed in all event types offered in the games (Olympic.org). Almost 150 athletes participated in the Women’s Figure Skating events alone in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
