O’Connor was an important addition to American Literature in the early twentieth century being that she composed two novels, thirty-two short stories, and a handful of commentaries and reviews. She was also the first writer born in the nineties to have her works collected and published in the Library of America.
Nature is a tempting escape from reality, but presents obstacles even for the best-equipped adventurers, like Robyn Davidson. It also challenges a pretentious individual, Chris McCandless (also known as Alexander Supertramp), who has a complete disregard for nature and its true power. The story Tracks tells the journey of Robyn Davidson, who partook in a nine-month journey across the deserts of Western Australia to the Indian Ocean. Unlike Chris McCandless who traveled solo, she was accompanied by her dog Diggity and four camels that she tamed herself to help carry the heavy supplies to aid her expedition. The vast isolation of the desert is exactly what attracted Davidson to it, just like the Alaskan Wilderness called to McCandless.

The narrator uses her elder brother Zach’s smothered childhood, charming personality and rebellious nature to create internal family conflict. The narrator begins her story as a young girl who, along with her two sisters and mother, unconditionally serves Zach as his obedient slaves.
1. Single stories are stereotypes that are based off of one perspective of a group of people. Single stories are built upon each other and define people;however, single stories aren't always true. There is a saying "don't judge a book by its cover". However, people of all generations are very judgmental.
Loyalty is a common literary theme because it is something that all people seek. Military companies, sports teams, and employers actively seek those they feel will be the most loyal to their cause. Loyalty provides a sense of stability and comfort. In many great literary works we see that the most loyal characters are those of meager existence. In the short stories “A White Heron,” “The Death of Ivan Ilych,” and “A Rose for Emily” a theme of undervalued loyalty becomes evident.
