In the story Woman Hollering Creek by Sanda Cisneros, the theory of feminism is not just present but woven into the very fabric of the book, highlighting the complexities of gender, culture, and identity. In Sandra Cisneros' book she illustrates how the lives of women are restricted and challenged by using feminist criticism to demonstrate how they can fight against these challenges and break free. Using these techniques Sandra Cisneros manages to explore the numerous ways women suffer in modern society due to standards and other factors both physically and mentally. She highlights the restrictions encountered by women, such as gender roles, social standards, and standards on behavior. An example of this is the story Eyes of Zapata where Cleofilas is restricted to the traditional duties of being a wife and mother, as well as experiencing verbal and physical abuse by her husband to keep her from fighting against those standards.``In order to eliminate the women who are not submissive enough, men ostracize them as fas brujas and exterminate. This is what happened to Ines' mother who got lynched by her father's people for being too independent”. The words “fas brujas” translate to “bad witches” in English and with the context I believe that the women who step up and speak out against the social/cultural challenges in society are seen as threats by men which is why they “exterminate” them. Did anybody notice the last sentence in “Woman Hollering Creek”? “It was gurgling out of her own throat, a long ribbon of laughter, like water.” Amazing, right?! Sandra Cisneros ties the story back to “La Llorona”! The sentence differentiates Cleo from “La Llorona” since "La Llorona" loses herself in misfortune while Cleo manages to escape. If the water represents “La Llorona”, then Cleo's gurgling laughter is the rejection of following her path.
Feminism isn't about making women strong. Women are already strong. It's about changing the way the world perceives that strength." —G.D. Anderson Feminism has been an issue in our society for a very long period of time and has been shown in movies, the media and novels. The novel “Lullabies for Little Criminals” by Heather O’Neil demonstrates an extreme case of feminism as the protagonist is shown to be manipulated by men as a way to survive in the current society.
Back in the day men and women were not seen the same way as they are today. In the 1800s women were raised to obey their husbands at all times and blame themselves before they could blame another man. The protagonist in the stories “Woman Hollering Creek” and “The Yellow Wallpaper” were an example of that in their marriage. They were both married to controlling/abusive husbands. “Woman Hollering Creek” is about a girl who left Mexico to go to Texas after marrying her Husband.

There can be a lot of problems that may happen in the Conodoguinet Creek. One problem is that there might be an excess amount of algae hogging up all the space in the water. This can be caused by fertilizer washing into the creek. It can even come from someone fertilizing their front yard. Also, there can be a high acidity level in the water, which can be unhealthy and hazardous to the fish.
The role of women in literature crosses many broad spectrums in works of the past and present. Women are often portrayed as weak and feeble individuals that submit to the situations around them, but in many cases women are shown to be strong, independent individuals. This is a common theme that has appeared many times in literature. Across all literature, there is a common element that causes the suffering and pain of women. This catalyst, the thing that initiates the suffering of women, is essentially always in the form of a man.
This novel is also autobiographical. Throughout history, women have been locked in a struggle to free themselves from the borderline that separates and differentiate themselves from men. In many circles, it is agreed that the battleground for this struggle and fight exists in literature. In a
