Women in the UAE have come a long way since the federation was established. UAE’s government was dedicated in trying to create equality between men and women and it has succeeded. Since 1971, women have played an important role in contributing to the building of a remarkable nation. However, many stereotypes were and still are attached to the women in the Arabic culture and how women are supposed to be and act in the Arabic World. Nonetheless, women in the UAE were granted full rights and given equality to men.

Although voting wasn’t part of it, in the 1970s women in the UAE especially students had their first part in politics when they went out to protest against the Iranian occupation of the Islands of Abu Mousa and the Greater and Lesser Tunbs. They also participated in a greater protest against “the Camp David agreement between Egypt and Israel” leading later to the peace treaty with Egypt and Israel in 1979. Nowadays, women are working as parliamentarians and are the ones that contribute mainly to council meetings in which they debate any arising problem that are related to the public concern. According to article 35 of the UAE constitution: “Public office shall be open to all citizens on a basis of equality of opportunity in accordance with the provisions of law”. Thus, Women are considered a vital part for the improvement of the political aspect of the country. A respectable achievement in the Women’s rights advance in the UAE is the participation in the Federal National Council. Previously men were only elected but in 2006 a change took place, eight women were appointed and one secured election to the 40-member (FNC). The first win in the history of the UAE of a woman in the FNC was of Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi making her first female Deputy
