The Sheridan Bruins women’s rugby team (3-1 OCAA) tore up the turf this weekend at homecoming in their game against Mohawk College. The lady Bruins scored nine tries and two conversions in the 66 minutes of play on Oct. 3, defeating the Mountaineers 49-0.
This has been the lady Bruins most successful season since the women’s rugby program started four years ago. The progress was clear in their performance on Saturday.
“Our scrums looked good nice and low, our rucks were very aggressive, we stole a few of their rucks which means the girls were really getting low and driving well,” said head coach Tamara Dixon after the game. “We secured all of our lineouts, and all of our scrums as well, and the penalty count was very low.”
The lady bruins were the opener for homecoming this weekend and they certainly led the charge with their big win against the Mountaineers. With their third win this season they officially secured a playoff spot for the first time in Sheridan’s rugby history.

It feels good to make some history today,” said Dixon.
The women played a near perfect game for a rowdy home crowd this weekend.
Carly Donaldson led the Bruins scoring two tries and two conversions for a total of 14 points. Khadeisha Thompson and Stormm Cerrelli both scored two tries each, followed by Storme Winn, Leah Avila and Jessica MacNeil each scoring a try of their own.
“It felt good to score in today’s game, it was hard fought for sure,” said Thompson. “Everybody played as a team, 15 as one rugby.”
The entire team was happy with the outcome at homecoming.
“We came out hard and ready to win. We worked on everything that we said we would at practice,” said Winn. “It felt good. Our goal now is to stay focused, keep up our work on defence and get the win at our next
In the seventh inning down by a score of 3-0, Charleston combined for four runs from shortstop Kyle Holder, first baseman Kane Sweeney, second baseman Hoy Jun Park and left-fielder Cesar Diaz. Despite the odds not being in their favor with Rome having a 90 percent win expectancy heading into the bottom of the 7th inning, Charleston prevailed in what was arguably the loudest game at “The Joe” this season. Friday marked the first playoff victory in the RiverDogs name. They were swept in their back-to-back post-season appearances in 2004 and 2005. Prior to this year’s RiverDogs squad, the last team to play in Charleston and obtain a playoff victory was the 1988 Charleston Rainbows, who defeated Myrtle Beach 3-1 in the opening round prior to being swept by Spartanburg 3-0 in the 1988 Finals.
The Roos had the majority of the ball early in the second half but could not convert into points. It was a different story for North’s though, scoring their fifth try thanks to Latrell Robinson backing up Sitveni Moceidreke to score right in front. Levido converted the try and the Bears led 26-2 after 55
On February 25 the Titans and Wolfpack played a game of coed softball at the United High School baseball field. Both the Titans and Wolfpack ended the game with a tie going into three innings. Final score for both teams was 2-2. The Titans started the game by batting first.
Vera led off with a single and Galusky followed with a bunt single before Corso’s bas hit to left drove them home. The Highlanders (2-15) added a run in the ninth to make it 6-2, but Radford would get no closer.
Pomeroy, the hero of the game, scored 10 points and had four rebounds. Mike Ridgley scored four, had five rebounds, two assists and two steals, Will Cook dished two assists and Austin Pruitt had two rebounds, two assists and two steals. “It was a real team effort and I couldn 't be prouder of my guys,”
Ole Miss Rebels Crush McNeese State University Cowgirls Junior, Lexi Thompson, led the Rebels to a three set victory with 25 kills and 22 digs against McNeese State University today at one at The Pavilion. The match ultimately came down to maximizing errors. The Cowgirls were unable to score more kills than the Rebels due to errors, putting the Rebels ahead with the win. A day in the summer there was a football game played at Kimberly’s turf located in Kimberly Wisconsin. A 7th grade Kimberly football team was playing another great team called the Neenah Rockets they had a massive running back that had this bushy mustache and they had a pretty fast good throwing quarterback. The Neenah rockets had great talent but so did Kimberly. This game was going to be a great one, cold fans crowded the stands eating fresh popcorn and very chocolatey hot chocolate in very white cups as the game started it was 0-0 after the first 4 and a half quarters and in the last minutes something big happens when we are on defense… WORK ON Before the game started we were in warm ups doing frankenstein's, lounges, karaoke, and four’s etc.
They believed that this would be a easy win, in the documentary,Terry Gannon, a guard on the team even said,” We were more focused on the hotel than the game the next day.” They should've been more concentrated on Pepperdine as Pepperdine gave them all they wanted. The Wolfpack barely edged off Pepperdine in a 69-67 victory. Dereck Whittenburg had given his 4th victory hug in a row to Coach V after the game and was hoping for many more. Next they faced an outstanding UNLV team led by Sidney Green.
Winning is fun, however it must get boring if all your team does is destroy your opponent. This is the University of Connecticut (also known as UConn) women’s basketball team with a win streak of 111 games that was heartbreakingly ended in the semifinals of the 2017 NCAA tournament with a 66-64 loss to Mississippi State. Jan Diehm, the author of “111 Wins and Counting,” writes about this streak and claims that the UConn women’s basketball team is one of the best college teams to ever compete, in the newspaper The Guardian. Diehm believes that this success is due to the skill of each player on the team and their ability to execute the coach’s plan. She supports this claim through her use of statistics, quotes and logic.

Our offensive line fires off fast and low to take on the defense. The running backs are strong, fast, and smart which gets the job done. We also could run to the outside because they have no contain. Punxsy’s defense is not aggressive at all on the ball. ACV and Union Jr High defense
On a cold, frosty, snow cover night in November at Welcome Home Stadium, was when my life changed. That night, two teams played for the chance to call themselves champions of 6th-grade football. All game, my team and I battled against the mighty Wilmington Hurricanes. We fought all game to win and finally we got the ball back with less than under a minute left and down by 4 points. The crowd was quieter than a church mouse as my coaches huddled us up during a timeout, and in that timeout, my coaches looked to me for answers.
The cheers from the crowd and teams, and the adrenaline pumping through our veins. The chalk lines are drawn, the field has been dragged, its time to play now. Nobody knew about the pressure we felt for that game. Not because we weren 't confident, because we were. It was because we knew that the people around us, including the coaches, didn’t believe we could do it.
The only thing we could control was what we were doing to improve as a team. Our last regular season meet before championship season is where I first saw that mentality pay off. We had won our first invitational, and that sparked the belief in all of us that we had a shot for a state title. But it was after regionals that we began to believe we should prepare to win. A regional title gave us the exact confidence boost we needed going into the state
It’s not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference - Bear Bryant. Many different sports are in this world, including soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, but two sports I enjoy watching are rugby and American football. Two sports that so many people love in this world. When you think of football you think of your favorite team. When you think of rugby you can’t think of anything because not many people in the USA watch it or play it.
