Wonder Essay In the book ‘Wonder’ by R.J. Palacio, it tells about an extraordinary little boy named August. He has facial deformities and he struggles with bullies in his new middle school. He is in 5th grade which means there are a lot of social pressures and his deformity doesn't help. Masks are one of the most important things in Wonder because it shows that being yourself is the most important thing. Your looks don’t define you, your mind and heart is what is most important. One of the quotes that really inspired me was when Auggie was going to school in his bleeding scream costume and he overheard one of his dearest friends talking about him, “I would kill myself if I looked like Auggie (79).” This quote really spoke to me because
Throughout the memoir, Night, the best parts of human nature are shown. From the start to the end of the memoir, Elie Wiesel and his dad had supported and never gave up on each other. Near the end, Elie Wiesel had questioned his father’s will, “To have lived and endured se much; was I going to let my father die now,” (105). He could not let his father die, they had faced so much together, they were each other’s strength. Similarly, Calpurnia had support the Finch family throughout the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird.

In Robert Cormier’s “We All Fall Down” there are many life lessons that are represented. One of them is how extreme hatred can cause you to do things that you normally wouldn’t do. But there are always consequences for your hatfull actions. Extreme hatred has caused people to do horrible things not just in this book but in real life as well. Many people have been killed or greatly hurt by other peoples hateful actions.
In Wonder by R.J. Palacio, the main character, August Pullman, suffers from a craniofacial abnormality which makes his facial appearance different than others. Auggie was sent to Beecher Prep in fifth grade, and many parents specifically Mrs.Alban thought it would put a burden on the students asked to befriend him. I disagree with what Mrs.Alban said I don’t think he put a burden on them at all. Throughout the novel, August becomes friends with students who become friends with him because they choose to, not only because they were asked.
In Santiago, the central character of The Old Man and the Sea, Ernest Hemingway has created a “Code Hero” who personifies endurance. Ernest Hemingway shows endurance in the main character Santiago. “Wonder,” tells a story about August Pullman, a boy with severe facial deformities, riding on the journey to how he settles into the school environment, make new friends, endure through the harsh setting, and survive the typical middle school dramas. Not only does it show his struggles and reflects his self-doubting process, it also illustrates the malicious and superficiality of people who vainly judge others based on their physical appearance. In spite of the brusque and insensitive comments, he remains spirited. In this essay, I am taking the thematic approach to produce themes from this book as it unravels.
People act differently when they are with certain people than when they are alone. Some will call this act a “mask.” This metaphor is used because people cover up who they truly are or what they really feel with their actions; similar to the way a mask covers up a person’s face. This idea of a mask is explored in Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem, “We Wear the Mask” and readers can see examples of “masks” in Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. People often wear masks to hide something about themselves that they are not proud of or hide their emotions and fears they do not want others to know.
Tom Robinson is a mockingbird in that he doesn't do one thing wrong. All he does is provide help to the people he interacts with. That is exactly how he got in trouble. Tom Robinson was helping Mayella with some chores. He was humming a melody and when he chopped up the dresser drawers.

Though they are somewhat similar in ways that they face challenges, Auggie and Andrew are almost polar opposites in how they look and in their personalities.
