Woodstock 1969 & 1999 Woodstock 1969 was one of the largest concerts of all time and a cultural benchmark for the late 1960s, while Woodstock 1999 was a disaster and marked the cultural end of the 1990s. They are both very well known concerts, but the memories of each differ in many ways. Even though Woodstock 1969 positively affected the music world, Woodstock 1999 was a huge failure and greatly affected Woodstock’s reputation. To start things off, Woodstock producers were surprised to hear that the Jeff Beck Group would not be making their appearance to the festival due to their split up on the eve of Woodstock (Dailymail.co.uk). Bob Dylan, an original inspiration for the festival, also never made it. In his situation, his child had been hospitalized over the weekend due to a medical condition (Dailymail.co.uk). Another band that was not able to attend the festival was Iron Butterfly (Dailymail.co.uk). They had gotten stuck at the airport because their helicopter did not arrive (Dailymail.co.uk). "Organizers were worried their hippy heavy-metal music would incite violence" (Dailymail.co.uk). With that being said, it was probably a good thing that the band was not able to attend the festival. Throughout the festival, 80 arrests were made that involved LSD, amphetamines, and heroin (foxnews). There was even a death that involved one of the three drugs. A teenager was killed by an overdose of heroin (History). Another teenager was also killed at the festival, but it did not involve drugs. The teen was in a sleeping bag and was accidentally ran over by a tractor during the night and killed (History). Along with deaths, eight women at the festival suffered miscarriages (Dailymail.co.uk). In contrast, many babies were also born (Dailymail.co.uk). Another obstacle faced by the …show more content…
This Woodstock was held at the Griffiss Air Force Base located in Rome, New York (web.a.ebscohost). The new location was only approximately 20 miles away from the original Woodstock location. The festival costed $38 million dollars to produce (washingtonpost). To cover the expenses, tickets sold for $150 dollars plus a service charge (washingtonpost). Concession prices were extremely high, with water costing $4 dollars a bottle (sfgate). The high prices infuriated festival attendees because water was a necessity while being exposed to the blistering heat. Throughout the fiery festival, many bands performed. One of the most crazed times of the festival was when Kid Rock incited the crowd to throw water bottles at the stage. This got the crowd stirred up even more than they already were. High prices and high temperatures contributed to lighting the

Now the title Motown fits the city that it was established in, Detroit, Michigan which is also known as the Motor City. But during the time it was known as the “New Negro Movement” named after Alain Locke. As explained before, because of this, three out of four boys who acted in the show had no musical background or experience (Pendergast and Pendergast 854). After the show was launched in 1966, The Monkees began producing music and touring as an actual band (Pendergast and Pendergast 854). The success found in the show led to the success of Monkees music recording.
Jazz is most often thought to have been started in the 1920s as this explosive movement, but that is in fact not the case. Starting in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century many African American musicians have started to explore their taste in improvising, and where better to do that than New Orleans (Anderson). Before the 1920s these jazz musicians have already been going around sharing the unique sound, but up until then, jazz had remained majorly in New Orleans. Interestingly during this period, a common jazz band would consist of a cornet, a clarinet, a trombone, and a rhythm section when at this period of time the clarinet is not commonly associated with being a jazz instrument, it moved into being the saxophone rather.
