An important factor to workplace ethics and behaviour is integrity, or being honest and doing the right thing at all times (Petrick & Quinn, 1997). The most essential ethical issues that hotels come across are integrity and trust. Beck, Lazer, and Schmidgall (2007) state that integrity at a simpler level consists of the idea of conducting business affairs with honesty and a commitment to treating every guests fairly. When guests see that a hotel is showing a firm commitment to ethical business practices, the guests could trust the brand to serve them well. A relationship of trust between the hotel and guests may be a significant factor to the company 's success. Some of the key ethical issues that are bothering hotel managers these days are mentioned in this essay. Such ethical situations need some very innovative solutions. Beck et al. (2007) assert that employees displaying ethical behaviour should be rewarded by the organization, and disciplinary action should be taken for those carrying out unethical activities. Issues of theft in hotels must be handled quickly and directly. In the situation where employees were using guest amenities for personal use, managers should consider such situation as a theft and take disciplinary action against the offenders. Stevens (1999) suggests that hospitality employees hardly have any discussions with their managers about ethics and organizational values and hence managers should discuss ethics with employees which helps in culture-building in the organisation. According to Mathenge (2013) passive aggressive actions and sabotage take place in environments where employees pretend to work and where employers do not pay them a suitable salary. Mathenge (2013) further states that when higher wages are not possible, employees can be encouraged by creating opportunity paths, career ladders, and training opportunities. Hospitality managers need to ensure that hard-working and motivated employees are recognized and rewarded. During their day to day operations managers and employees face a number of ethical issues that can leave a long-lasting impression in the minds of the management, guests or co-workers. Stevens (1999) suggests that managers need to involve employees in regular discussions concerning ethical standards, including why theft hurts everyone, as it represents the entire organization.
