(c)(i) The World Heritage Species concept is purposed in protecting, identifying, protecting, conserving and preserving species of the world that play significant roles in natural and cultural heritage, for future generations.

The World Heritage convention is contributing significantly to preservation and conservation and this concept annexed to it does the same by protecting species that have substantial value to humans and the environment as a whole. Apes like the Chimpanzees and Bonobos for example are the closely related genetically to humans and because of this have extensive scientific worth. This point of view has been established multiple time in the convention but notably in Article 2 where it providing particularly for ‘physical and biological formations or groups’ considered to be of outstanding universal value of natural heritage when view from an ‘aesthetic or scientific point of view’.
Moreover, the World Heritage species effectively utilize international law that like CITES as a means of protecting the species. Although there are conventions that are in place that address the issue and importance of protecting and preserving endangered species, there are still some species that are faced with extinction like the great ape or panda.
