Wars, conflicts and weapons have existed since the beginning of humanity. In early times, the damage caused by violent confrontations and the different kind of arms only affected those in active battle. However, all of this changed in the 20th century. The two main conflicts of the period, World War I and World War II impacted entire societies and left millions of soldiers and civilians dead. The whole globe experienced the intensive warfare and the power and destruction of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. For example, the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombs, dropped in 1945, helped to end WWII but left a lasting negative impact on the lives of those who survived, even in the American soldiers (class notes from Video: A World without War).

For example, it could ease the economic crisis of many developing nations. Sometimes those governments spend their limited budgets on military forces and guns instead of on improving the social needs of their people. Disarmament would spare our world from the threat of a nuclear attack or a nuclear war. By prohibiting those weapons, we would be protecting the lives of millions and possibly saving all of humanity from a massive destruction. In addition, disarmament could bring an end to the illegal trafficking of weapons and help reduce acts of violence by the people and groups that purchase that form of contraband. Moreover, in the case of the United States, no weapons would mean the end of mass shootings and gun related incidents that are reported almost every day on the news.
