Although I was able to pass the class, and the passing grade on my AP test meant I got my grade boosted to an ‘A’ automatically, the failure I felt in the first couple of months was unlike anything I had experienced at that point. If I had not been desperate to find a better way to study, I wouldn’t have discovered that music soundtrack, and I might never have discovered Sierra Boggess and her powerful quotes. Even though I wasn’t happy at the time with my abysmal test and quiz scores, I’m glad I was able to learn this lesson that I am already enough, as it has changed my entire outlook on life so much. Now the next time I’m disappointed with a test score, or angry with myself for messing something up, I will be able to remind myself that I am always
However, now my view is completely changed and I will not be so quick to pass judgement in the future. In conclusion, The Glass Castle was the most influential novel I read this year in my AP Senior English class. It taught me that strength and perseverance can make a significant impact in life. I also learned that forgiveness and the ability to forgive is much more powerful than I ever realized. This novel sucked me into the story and its characters and took me on an emotional ride of highs and lows.
ENC 1102 was a challenging course I had to overcome. As I was walking into class day by day, I learned and picked up something new each day. I considered myself a low-skilled writer, but after this class I can say I’ve improved my writing techniques tremendously. Although this class didn’t teach me everything I wished, this course did teach me how to research, how to write a thesis statement, and open/closed form essays, which I would carry throughout my career.
Despite not placing in the competition, participating in the FBLA county competition was important to me because of the valuable lesson I learned. I had a long speech prepared that I had spent several days preparing and memorizing, and was confidant that I was going to ace it. But the second I stood in front of the judges, I stumbled over my words, lost my place on my note cards, and was so eager to get it over with i rushed through the rest of my speech and didn 't make the time limit. I was so prepared to give a winning speech, i was dissapointed in my inadequacy. Noticing my disappointment, when my adviser came to discuss the performance, he told me he was proud.
His doubts of my seriousness student were palpable, and there due to my minimal oral participation in the class. Though I understood where he was coming from, I saw myself as more of a reticent but engaged student, completely capable of wrestling with a course like AP US. He agreed to let me take the entrance test after weeks of constant inquiry. After a month of waiting I received an email say that I had been accepted into the class. When I ecstatically approached him the next day and questioned him about the test, he said that I was ready for a class of a higher level and that mine was one of the best essays overall.
English Composition 101 has been a fun class that helped me build my confidence as a writer. It was my first college class, and I am glad that I decided to take the course. It was a great experience, and the class will help me immensely in my future writing. When I started the class I had zero experience writing papers. My school had never taught me how to write papers and had never required me to write one, so I was very nervous when I started the class.
For the past two months, it has been a great pleasure as well as a challenge taking this course on academic writing “CO150 College Composition “. Writing has always my biggest weakness in English and thanks to this course I have the chance and courage to encounter and to some extent, overcome it. After submitting my work on Project Two which include my annotated bibliography and argumentative essay on gender inequality in the workplace, I have received a rhetorical analysis from my classmate Nguyen Thanh Ha in which she give comments and evaluation on my Project Two. This has motivated me to take in to account all the implications of Ha’s rhetorical analysis and to examine the similarities and different between our understanding of my annotated
I deserve this scholarship because I have recently been going through a very difficult time. It has been difficult for me to even be on campus and attend my classes as I struggle through this terrible time. However, as difficult as it is, it has showed me how strong I truly am to be able to maintain my grades and scholarship, getting caught up with all of my work, even as I find it hard to breathe some days. Having the opportunity to dive into a new culture for a month would be an incredible opportunity for me right now. I think my situation allows me to appreciate what a great opportunity this is.
My Writing Experience In previous courses, my writing skills have been mediocre or just enough to pass the class. Throughout the duration of this course, I have written a variety of papers using different techniques and skills. Previously I would write assuming that the only audience would be my instructor. This course has helped me realize that there are many steps and skills involved with writing a well-organized and easy to comprehend essay. My expectations coming into the course were high and remained high throughout the duration of the course.
Having writing as my weakest point makes my room for improvement greater and more achievable. Experiences and challenges allow myself to feel more determined in achieving the same level of success in writing as in other subjects. I have had many writing experiences in the past years, especially at this school alone. The best writing that I remember producing was last semester in my Humanities class. We were supposed to write a compare and contrast essay on the movie The Shawshank Redemption and the book Just Mercy.
