CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 INTRODUCTION This chapter covers the background of study, problem statements, research objectives, research question, research hypothesis, significance of study, scope of study, limitations of study, operational definition and conceptual framework. 1.2 BACKGROUND OF STUDY Nursing personnel are consistently ranked among the top occupations with the highest rate of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). According to the bureau of labor statistic (2008), nurses, nursing aides and attendants reported the highest MSDs incidence rate of requiring days away from work in 2007. This study will give benefits to Ministry of Health and hospital administration. It will be used as a guideline to other hospital to improve their working environment. Thus, by knowing the condition faced by nurses, the hospital administration can work onto taking actions and to equip the work area with all the measures needed to maintained and improve the level of safety in nurses workplace. Moreover, this study will be significant in promoting good work environment in the workplace and motivations towards nurses. Besides that, the duty of nurses will affect their body regions and they will be able to take precaution to reduce the severity of injury towards themselves.
