WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Oct. 13th, 2017) – On Oct. 28, Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) will be gearing up for its 2017 homecoming parade. WSSU is celebrating its 125th anniversary by throwing their biggest parade to date. Come out to celebrate with friends and family and the WSSU community. A month after celebrating its 125th anniversary on Sept. 28, WSSU is going back to their original route. The parade will starts at 10 am in downtown Winston-Salem. A lot of participation from students and the community is expected. WSSU alumnus Terry Griffin will serve as this year’s Grand Marshall. SWOSU intramural football team, “Happy Campers”, competed in the NIRSA Regional Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska this past weekend. The Happy Campers have won the past four SWOSU Flag Football Championships and have gone undefeated all four years. With that record, the Happy Campers had the opportunity to travel to the University of Nebraska to play in the NIRSA Regional Championship which featured around 40 teams.

Dear Iowa State University Development Committee, In appreciation of the variety of cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds represented on Iowa State University’s campus, Students4ISU would like to propose an event that would recognize and celebrate the diversity found in the ISU community. The following document details a two-part event of a public concert and international food festival for the students enrolled at Iowa State. Included in the document are specifications for the event, recommendations for student safety, and a cost/profit projection for the event. The Powwow: A Culturally Significant Event On April 28th at 2 PM I volunteered to work at the powwow. The powwow holds a cultural significance for Native Americans and celebrates heritage. I observed a beautiful display of culture and I gained a real understanding of diversity. As someone from a Hispanic background I understand the significance of keeping culture alive.
The band was invited to participate in Southern University’s homecoming parade and attend their homecoming game. Cameron and I are both in the band; he is trumpet player and I was a color guard member. I was extremely excited to go. This was going to be my trip of firsts.
In honor of the first ever Asian American Heritage Week, several University of Central Florida organizations came together to host a series of events promoting Asian culture. Asian American Heritage Week was led by eight organizations: Asian Pacific American Coalition, Asian Student Association, Chinese American Student Association, Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Filipino Student Association, Korean Student Association, Pi Delta Psi Fraternity and Vietnamese American Student Association. Homecoming is a time when you show your school spirit and pride. We dress up according to the themes set forth by the school. I am participating in the dress up days as well as the parade we are having. After the parade, I am going to be marching with the band in the game. All-in-all I am going to have a busy homecoming week.
