Abstract
Wujiang, the largest southern tributary of the Yangtze River, flows through nine regions of the province Guizhou of China with 10 dams on the river. Since 2002, “Management Measures for Water Pollution Prevention and Control in Wujiang Reservoir” has urged to implement. However, among the tributaries of the Yangtze River, only Wujiang River was under heavy pollution and failed to meet Grade V water quality standard in 2011, which mean the water was essentially useless.[5][9] In May 2011, phosphorus level and fluoride level of the Wujiang had reached a severe level, and the Wujiang had classified as the most severely

The concentration of fluoride and phosphates in Wujiang River had classified as severe. In addition, the pollutants came from phosphorus chemical enterprises, phosphate mines, sewages, there were more than 50 phosphorus mining companies along the river and the main source of pollution was a company called Guiyang Sinochem Phosphate.[1][2]
Impacts
Excess phosphorus will cause eutrophication, which leads to algae bloom and seriously affect the water sources.[9] The 2011 Water Pollution Problem in Guizhou Wujiang affected the aquatic life and the safety of local drinking water sources.
In short term, the water quality of Wujiang had decreased and failed to meet Grade V, which mean the water was essentially useless.[5][9] Fishes died due to contamination of phosphorus. According to Liu Zhongguo, Zunyi’s city councillor, ‘The impact of the factory's discharge stretches more than 10 kilometres downstream. Wujiang’s fishes have almost no chance of

The policy focused on water pollution prevention and control situation, water quality maintenance and protection scheme, water quality improvement and management plan, risk prevention and control scheme, etc. In order to implement the policy precisely, in November 2012, The State Council introduced Planning and Control of Water Pollution in the Upstream Area and Three Gorges Reservoir Area of Guizhou (2012-2015), which appointed local government heads as river chiefs to clean up and protect its water resources, implement ecological compensation mechanism, strengthen industrial pollution control and promote the construction of pollution treatment plant. The first regulation invested 3.6 billions dollar in order to set up 157 pollution control
2.21 PESTICIDES Manahan (19..) discusses pesticides as water pollutants. DDT was introduced after World War II which accelerated pesticide use. Manahan (19..) states that by the mid-1990s agricultural use of pesticides was over 300 million kg per year and millions more kg of pesticides were used in non-agricultural applications. Manahan: Insecticides such as diazinon, carbaryl and chlorpyifos are most commonly found in water.
All organisms need oxygen to survive and when their is not enough oxygen, it leaves plants and animals to die. The area of water where there is a low count of oxygen are often called a dead zones. Also, an increase of the pH level in the water can be created because of algae blooms. The toxic killing algae can make humans sick. For the aquatic animals, these toxins attack mainly the organisms liver and nervous system (Nitrogen and
Do you ever feel like there is a piece of dry, and scratchy piece of sandpaper in the back of your throat from not having enough water? How would you feel if you could never stop the anoying feeling, that is constantly reminding you, that you could die from extreme thirst any day from now. The main reasons that China was driven into the intense water shortage is, their Government policies, Population increases and the most tremendous reason is the industrialization of China. One of the main reasons that is driving China's unfortunate water crisis is, China’s tremendous population growth. As China’s cities are increasing in population more of their residence are consuming their limited water supply.
Drinking contaminated water can cause different types of cancers and also infertility and birth defects due to of the presence hazardous chemicals. Impoundments that have not been built or properly closed off have led to the death of many animals and also health issues in
The Catawba River and Pollution The majority of avid paddlers, especially those of us near the U.S. National Whitewater Center here in Charlotte, know that the water quality of the Catawba River is considered “sketchy.” We have grown used to seeing the occasional, inexplicably dead catfish along the river banks and do not seem to question it anymore. What we don’t always realize is that the water quality is much worse than we had originally thought. For example, untreated sewage spills and line leaks from new developments along the river end up contaminating the nearby water, and therefore affect everything downriver from the sites.
Nutrient-loading will increase the dissolved oxygen, which high levels will harm aquatic life and affect the water quality. Fish and other species will
In turn, this causes serious health implications. This paper focuses on the social, economic and environmental conditions such as the impacts
If the fish are not healthy, that can adversely affect people. People could eat contaminated fish, or people cannot sell the fish because they are contaminated. Some fish may die from the pollution, leading to less fish for catching. Lower populations of fish and other marine life can also cause an imbalance in the food chain. Predators can also be harmed
The water pollution is polluting great deal of their rivers. The reason for a mass of this is “Industrial runoff, poor sewage treatment , and catch basins”(Auslin). All of this is making the water of china is deadly for people to drink and to swim in. A group did a study in 2011 that said “39 percent of china’s seven river basins were too polluted for general use, including 14 percent that were unfit even for industrial use. In 26 key lakes and reservoirs, only 42 percent of total water was deemed fit for swimming and fishing, while 8 percent was unfit even for industrial use”(Auslin).
Many people have wondered why China's water scarcity is getting worse. It is because Global warming, Water pollution and the most important is Industrialization. North China is suffering the most. This means it does not have enough fresh water to meet its needs. The North's lack of water will now put the whole city in danger.
Also, if the water becomes too polluted, then there would be no fish to catch. One stereotype that has the most truth to it is that fisherman lie, but mostly only about the size and how the fish was caught. Everyone lies, and fisherman are no exception to this. Afterall, fisherman only do it to spice up the story because who likes a boring story, and it wouldn’t be a fishing story if the size of the fish wasn’t exaggerated. Every group has its bad batch of people that make the rest of the group look bad as a whole, and the fisherman group is no exception to this truth.
The Ok Tedi Copper Mine Define the main forms of pollution and resource depletion and identify the major problems associated with each form. The main type of pollution at the Ok Tedi Copper Mine is the discharging of mining waste into the Ok Tedi River in Papua New Guinea. The pollution problem began in 1984 following the collapse of a tailing dam used by the company that was responsible for mining copper and gold at the site. By 2000, more than 90 million tons of mine waste had been released into the river and destroyed tens of villages, farms, rainforests, and fisheries downstream.
Government should be more strict to protect the environment in China. Government should be more alert for the air pollution, and be more attention for their people
LITERATURE REVIEW What is water pollution? As the country is becoming more and more populated, the demands for social services have increased significantly. This has led to an increase of the pollution in many developing towns such as Ga-kgapane. The most disturbing and problematic forms of pollution in Ga-kgapane is the pollution of the natural streams. Water pollution is when there is a build of one or more substances in water to such an extent that it causes problems for animals or plants.
Water is the most important component found on the surface of the earth because it is source of life for living creatures. However, water pollution has become a global concern. Water pollution can have several forms from diverse sources. It is expected that there will be a lack of clean water in next few decades due to pollution. Nile river water in Egypt is the focus of attention of many studies due to many reasons.
