World War II is a war that lasted 1939 to 1945; it was a big dispute of many conflicts amongst different countries, it initially started on September 1, 1939. The war started when Germany invaded Poland. Poland was un-prepared for combat so this resulted in defeat leaving them demolished and devastated. On June 6th, 1944, also known as “D-Day”, American, British, and Canadian troops, who had came across the Channel from England, and breached the continent of Europe, this was a turning point for the war. Most of the combat occurred on the beach in Normandy, France. D-Day is known as the greatest assault involving both land and water in the history of war, these troops attacked a 50-mile long segment of the beach. So, during the second week of September, they made an extended line along France and Germans border. The Allies were able to conquer and defeat more and faster than they originally planned and this resulted in them running low on their supplies. Their supply shortage was not the least of their problems; like once before, bad weather was a drawing back factor. The sky was too dark and cloudy for their aerial support to be any good support for the men on the ground. To execute their plan the best way possible, they had to hold back a few weeks for not as many clouds. Before they could attack, the Battle of the Bulge occurred. This was when four of the Americans units were attacked by twenty-four of Germany’ units. On April 30, 1945, a few months after the battle’, the Hamburg Radio Broadcast declared that Hitler was dead by a gunshot to the head, which was inflicted by himself, he committed suicide. Despite the fact, the Allied Powers entered Berlin and detected that the man behind all the slaughter and chaos has killed himself. On May 8, 1945, better known as “V-E Day” (Victory in Europe), Germany surrendered because with their leader gone, they didn’t have much support or anything left to put up much of a fight.
