X-ray Crystallography is a method used to obtain the molecular information of a material through the diffraction pattern. This method helps the development of the fields of the science, because it can be used to any crystalline compound (introduçao)
The macroscopic structure of the crystals have long been getting attention for the fact of having certain regularity and symmetry. The crystalline structure is evident because most of them have a strong crystalline habit, which is the external pattern shape of the material, and this way a crystal can be easily distinguish from other solids. The first report about crystals was in Ancient Rome, with the naturalist Pliny the Elder’s book “Natural History”, where he described his geographic observations

It’s also possible to use oils and liquids, but they need to be frozen while they’re placed in the sample plate in the spectrometer. Usually the spectrometer uses liquid nitrogen connected in a bomb to decreases the sample’s temperature until the temperature needed to the sample be solid, and as the air molecules are present in the air around the sample, when the temperature to solidify the sample is below the water solidification temperature. It’s needed to use a vacuum bomb, so the sample won’t be contaminated with the water crystals on it’s …show more content…
A pharmaceutical company looking for a new drug for fighting bacteria or virus must first find a molecule capable of inhibiting active proteins (enzymes) which are involved in the attack of human cells. Knowing the exact form of the protein allows scientists to design the composition of the active substances of the drug that can be fixed on the active sites of the protein, and thus stop their harmful activity. Crystallography is also essential to distinguish different solid forms of a drug. These forms can be soluble under different conditions, which influences the effectiveness of the

Molecular Structure Lab Report: Determining Polarity Instructions: For this investigative phenomenon, you will investigate why certain substances, such as oil and vinegar, don't mix. To do so, you will combine various compounds, compare their solubility, and determine their polarity. Fill in each section of this lab report and submit it to your instructor for grading.
The enzymeʼs have an active site that allows only certain substances to bind, they do this by having an enzyme and substrate that fit together perfectly. If the enzyme shape is changed then the binding
For the general strain theory, the main limitations was the possible variation in evaluating an event or stimulus as a life strain or not. Gacy’s interpretation on what events and stimulus were strains on his life would be unknown, so it cannot be determined if a life strain is the reason Gacy committed crime. Though Gacy had strains at home within his family, it is allegedly said Gacy was quite popular in school. This means he would have had good bonds with his peers, but there is not enough evidence to show it could have made a difference. Lastly, Gacy’s childhood seemed apparent to have a vast amount of strains, however, when he became older, he left his family.
The substrate for beta-galalactoside is ortho-nitrophenyl-B-galactoside. ONPG is structured similarly to lactose. The purpose of the experiment was to add a competitive inhibitor to observe if the reaction rate would slow down. A competitive inhibitor is when the inhibitor binds to the active site on the enzyme and prevents the binds of the substrate
Crystals all over the world are used in jewelry. The ancient people of greek always used the word krystallos for crystals and its supposed to mean ice & Quartz! Sugar
In the short story “Powder,” Tobias Wolff uses indirect characterization to help us understand how the father acts and behaves. First, Tobias Wolff expertly uses indirect characterization by saying “He’d had to fight for the privilege of my company” (Para 1). This allows the reader to infer that the father is reckless or careless and is not trustworthy as he must fight for the company of his son on the ski trip. Secondly, Tobias Wolff uses indirect characterization to show that the father is also caring and wants to take his son skiing as we see in the text “He wouldn’t give up. He promised hand on heart to take good care of me and have me home for dinner on Christmas Eve” (Para 2).
3mL of the liquid in each of the vials were added into cuvettes and measured in the spectrophotometer. Before each time point the photo spectrometer was zeroed using a cuvette with 3mL of distilled water. If any of the results were considered unusual the machine was zeroed again and the sample was retested. The results from the spectrophotometer test were recorded in a table. The experiment was repeated six times to gain a sample size of six.
All enzymes are under the class of protein biomolecule. Amino acids are the basic units that are combined to make up an enzyme. The biomolecule that stores information is a Nucleic Acid. The specific 3-D region within an enzyme is called the active site. The chemical
11) After you have prepared the dilutions, clean the outsides of the cuvettes with a paper towel. 12) Place the blank tube (tube 0) in the spectrophotometer. Since distilled water has no color it will not absorb any light so the absorbance number would be zero and this done to test the absorbance scale on the Spectrophotometer for the purpose of having it calibrated correctly. 13) Set the spectrometer to a wavelength of 530 nanometers. 14) Place the cuvettes (numbers 1-6) with the appropriate substance and record it’s reading in the data table.
The periodic table is a much more interesting concept than people give it credit for. Periodic means the repeating according to some pattern. The first periodic table is very different from the modern one. They are both very interestingly organized. The periodic table has the elements on them.
Introduction: A crystal is a solid whose atoms are arranged in a specific repeating pattern. Real crystals undergo years to grow, but today's scientists have obtained a way to grow crystals right in the lab. They have also been effective in finding a way for people who aren’t scientists to grow crystals in the comfort of our own home. Although they may not be the same crystals we wear as jewelry, they give us a basic idea of the unique types of crystals that are made, formed and grown all over the world.
Bio Chem lab Report 04 Enzyme Biochemistry Group Member: Chan Man Jeun Duncan (16002621) Law Sze Man (16000478) Introduction Enzyme is a protein base structure substance in our body. It works at a biocatalyst that will catalyzing the chemical reaction, which helps to speed up the chemical reaction. Enzyme could only function in specific shape, and the shape of enzyme is depending on the environment, therefore it is hard for an enzyme to function well in an extreme environment. The aim of this experiment is to see can the enzyme functions normally in different environment(pH, temperature and salt concentration) via using starch solution, amylase from saliva, 0.5M HCl solution, 0.5M NaOH solution and NaCl solution, and using iodine solution
Stalactites and stalagmites are large crystals which grow in caves. Stalactites grow down from the ceiling, while stalagmites grow up from the ground. The world's largest stalagmite is 32.6 meters long, located in a cave in Slovakia. Make your own stalagmites and stalactites using baking soda. It's an easy, non-toxic crystal project.
The substituents should therefore be hydrophobic and electron donating for maximum activity. • log 1/C is the concentration of drug that has a defined biological activity. The bigger the value of log 1/C , the smaller the value of c, the better the drug. • P is a measure of overall hydrophobicity. • π is the substituent hydrophobicity constant and measures the hydrophobicity of a specific region on the drug’s skeleton.
