The effectiveness of Yaz compared to female condoms in the prevention of unwanted pregnancy
With the advent of birth control pills in the 1960’s, women have been given a great degree of power to choose when they want to conceive and determine how much space they want between their pregnancies. However, faced with so many choices of contraceptive methods, the question of which is more effective and convenient has always been on the minds of experts and women. It is not a simple task to examine and compare the effectiveness of each method, since there are many different classes and examples including barrier method and hormonal contraception. The level of effectiveness greatly depends on how these individual methods are used,

The Health line stated that certain medications such as rifampin, anticonvulsants, oral yeast infection medications, St.John’s worth and certain HIV medications can interfere with the effectiveness of the combined pill. The National Health Service recommends that women need to take the pill at the same time every day, because if they fail to do this or if a pill is missed, pregnancy can result. Women experiencing severe vomiting and diarrhoea while on the pill could also become pregnant (2014). Another general warning is that persons taking combined oral contraceptives should avoid antibiotics. “Although package inserts of both broad-spectrum antibiotics and COCs warn of potential COC failure with concomitant antibiotic use, it has been argued that antibiotics other than rifampin do not seem to significantly affect plasma levels of COC steroids, and women taking COCs and antibiotics concomitantly do not appear to have a greater risk of breakthrough pregnancy” (Anderka, Hernandez, Jon-van don Berg, Mitchell, Toh, 2010). In this study, the researchers did not find a significant relationship between the simultaneous use of antibiotic with combined oral contraceptives (COCs) and the risk of unplanned pregnancy among users of …show more content…
Neither the oral contraceptive method nor the female condom provide 100% protection form unplanned pregnancy. In a Public Health Report (2010), it was suggested that if every woman using highly effective contraceptive methods combine this with the use of a condom, only about 20 percent of abortion and unwanted pregnancies would occur. This means an annual decline in unwanted pregnancies by 786,000 and a drop of approximately 152,000 in abortions. The combination of condoms with highly effective contraceptive methods such as Yaz has often been included as a means of safety against unplanned pregnancy especially if the user has missed a pill. For patients taking Yaz, the internet drug index, RxList suggested that, if a woman misses two active pills for two consecutive days in week one or two of taking the pill, they must take two pills per day for the next two days. Then take one pill per day for the remaining pack. It is advised that they use back-up contraceptive for at least seven days after the missed pills.
These types of pills have been approved by the FDA and have been available for decades for women to take when necessary. These pills are vital to women’s health especially in the case of rape or when other forms of contraceptives fail. I will work to ensure that these remain available to all women and that means expanding healthcare coverage to include emergency contraception. Women’s Health
Those four contraceptives are the week after pill, the morning after pill, Plan B, and Ella. All these contraceptives are all forms of pills that help terminate a pregnancy. To the Green family they see these contraceptives as life-threatening drugs and do not follow their belief that life begins at the

“With funding from International Harvester heiress Katharine McCormick, Sanger recruited researcher Gregory Pincus to develop an oral contraceptive or "magic pill." The result, Enovid, was approved for usage by the Food and Drug Administration in 1960.” (Katz, 2010) All of her efforts helped to continue with the study and research regarding birth
My question is why do some women choses not to use birth control pills knowing that it is the best methods to prevent them from undesired
Abortion in Australia is a subject of state law rather than national law. The grounds on which abortion is permitted in Australia vary from state to state. In every state, abortion is legal to protect the life and health of the woman, though each state has a different definition. In Australia it is 1 in every 4 baby’s don’t survive pregnancy, with over 80,000 women wanting abortion every year.
Nonetheless, many scientists and doctors were working to perfect the pill. After many trials, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved the first birth control pill, Enovid, in 1960. Within five years, “…the pill became the most popular form of birth control in the United States, prescribed by 95 percent of obstetricians and gynecologists. By 1965, six and a half million married women and hundreds of thousands of unmarried women had obtained prescriptions for oral contraceptives” [Watkins 1998].
The age group that is most likely to become pregnant from not using any type of contraceptive method are those ages fifteen to eighteen. About eighteen percent of sexually active teens in this age group are not using any type of birth control (“Contraceptive Use in the United States.”). The biggest contributors to this are their lack of knowledge and the difficulty that comes with obtaining many forms of birth
Birth control made family planning simpler, thus allowing women to pursue education and careers before beginning a family, all while maintaining a physical relationship. This is primarily why people began to use and why it has risen in popularity through the years. There are many methods to choose from that meet the requirements for many different lifestyles and backgrounds, making it all the more attainable for all. However the use does not come without critics. Some feel the use is unnatural, immoral, and interferes with “God’s Plan.”
Despite the fact that the viability of birth control pills made it the best technique for anticipating pregnancy, it causes various unsafe reactions other than the symptoms that the medicinal group has persuaded in subsequently it must be expelled from general utilization. Body Paragraph 1- Pro argument #1 (At least two in-text references required) Topic sentence 1: Birth control pills ought to be banned in light of the fact that the anticonception medication pill and different contraceptives are making ladies wiped out, handicapping them, and actually executing them. Disclaimer: This paper will not discuss the argument of whether abortion should be legal or not. The pro-choice/pro-life debate is multi-faceted and I believe where you stand has a lot to do with your core fundamental beliefs. According to Dr. Jesudason, a nephrologist at the Royal Adelaide hospital, “abortion is arguably one of the most polarizing issues in American politics today” (Jesudason 1).
Unintended pregnancies happen around the world daily. According to Guttmacher Institute, “In 2011, the most recent year for which national-level data are available, 45% of all pregnancies in the United States were unintended, including three out of four pregnancies to women younger than 20.” Birth control was approved for contraceptive use in 1960 and after two years, 1.2 American women were on the pill. Birth control should be available without a prescription due to the positive feedback. It should only be available to customers aged higher than 15, and must have a monthly check up with their OBGYN.
Doctor’s say that birth control can harm some females if they aren’t completely developed, it can harm their menstrual cycle in the
Birth Control is the practice of preventing unwanted pregnancies, usually by the use of contraception. Whether it be the implant, patch, pills, shot, or sponge. Some people want to have sex but prevent having children but sometimes these birth control methods don’t always work and some have had lethal consequences in the past. Birth control can date back to 3000 B.C. when condoms were made from such materials as fish bladders, linen sheaths, and animal intestines.
Culture and Religion seem to be working hand in hand in society, when looking at culture we look at characteristics and knowledge of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, food, social habits (things that are done natural e.g. saying please and thank you), music and arts. With religion people often use the word to mean the worship of a god or gods. However, some religions do not have gods. One thing that all religions have in common is that they help their believers to find meaning and comfort in the world by using some aspects from that particular religion. With culture and religion playing a big role in our everyday and life choices contraceptives go against a lot of cultural and religion choices and
