The debate on year round schooling has stimulated mixed reactions from the American society. Year-round schooling is not beneficial to students because it does not show an improvement on academic performance, adds to expenses significantly, and is damaging to a child’s health. ______________________.
The idea of attending school for a full year is not an efficient learning style. Year-round school offers shorter breaks more often rather than a summer off once a year. This causes students to forget material learned more quickly, whereas students who attend school consistently for months acquire knowledge more effectively. Just as students would begin to learn and catch on, another break would occur in which they would forget what they learned.
The reason I would like to change to year-round school is because it would let us learn more in a year. If you 're like me, you don’t real do any school work over the summer, and with a year-round schedule, we wouldn’t have a chance to forget anything. If we had year round school, we could have shorter school days or the classes could be longer or shorter. We would have better opportunities to take more classes and learn more. If we were able to learn more,
Year-round schooling can cause students to become more stressed out versus traditional schooling. As we have seen the different pros and cons, I would like to firmly state that public year-round schooling shouldn’t be implemented in our education system. I do not believe in it for our current generation or any future ones. Many students do not need the strict structure of year-round schooling, as they are becoming increasingly smarter. Year-round schooling, like many other ideas, has its pros and cons but can be steadily confirmed as ineffective.
The fact that many schools with year round school are showing better scores and more improvement from the student. Schools have year round school. To began, Year round school have many different scheduling for the kids. With year round school kids getting longer time off on breaks.
Students Lose Education during Summer Break. " If we went year round, we would retain a lot of this information we learned. That is one of the several reasons schools should go year round.
It is a great idea to do Year-round schooling because it can improve a child’s academic achievement. The schedule can make it easier for students to access tutoring and they are less likely to forget material over a short break than a long summer vacation. Tests show that about 2.6 months of learning is lost during the summer, and Year-round schooling is a solution for that, according to an article on National Association for Year-round Education’s website. Also scores for ACT testing increased for students who participate in Year-round schooling.
Year round school should not be used in today’s school, because it threatens family plans, teacher and student burnouts, and may become costly. A child’s development is based on different experiences that sometimes can only be experienced through family time and not sitting in a classroom. Many families plan vacations during the summer. Some even sending children to camps that may give them another experience that school doesn’t offer. Some children come from separated families where summer vacation may allow a child to spend time with another
While year-round schooling could lead to a decrease in family time, the students have frequent breaks where they can spend time with their family and they can see their family after school. The students get “time off during all four seasons, instead of just one” (Emery 32) so they can spend time with their families during their breaks. Although older students could miss out on obtaining a full-time summer job, they could always work a part-time job during the breaks they get during year-round school. The students can still be “taking advantage of traditional breaks” (Goers 6) by working and making money for themselves. While keeping the normal school schedule has some benefits, year-round school is still the best
School Year Round Why would anyone want to go to school a year-round? (Rhetorical Question) School should be a year-round because then students will not forget their learning, be more focused on their education and it will be easier to earn their credits in a shorter period of time. Firstly, A school year-round should be offered each year so students will not forget the learning. Many students that come back from their summer break most likely struggle on what they have learned, for instance, everyone ignores most of the subjects and methods that everyone discovered last year.
When considering the choice of whether, schools should convert to year round schooling or not, the choice should definitely be schools should not convert to year round schooling. A few reasons schools should not convert to year round schooling is because students can even forget something they learned, in a short period of time, and then the teachers would have to reteach the same topic, which is extremely frustrating. The students would also spend less time with their family, because they don’t have the traditional summer break. Not only that, but it causes parents more stress to have to plan ahead of time for how they were going to take care of their children whenever they had breaks (which were very frequent). If this claim is not listened to, teachers teach the same thing repeatedly, family bonds weaken, it disrupts parents work, and it risks the child’s safety.
In the article TOP 3 REASONS THE US SHOULD SWITCH TO YEAR-ROUND SCHOOLING author Lynch makes a great point by stating, “... when it comes to learning and retention, students who attend year-round schools have nothing to lose and much to gain,” (Lynch, 1). The thing you are gaining is knowledge, which is very important. According to the article Pros and Cons of Year-Round School “... Pros of year-round schooling include: Decreased need to re-teach skills after long vacations, allowing teachers to use classroom time more efficiently,” (Morin, 1). If teachers are using the first few weeks of the school year re-teaching stuff the students forget over the summer, which is going to cut into the time the teacher planned to teach other things.
Whether year-round schooling should be enforced in Florida schools has been a recent debate. Florida schools should not take part in year-round schooling schedules because it makes sports and jobs very hard to get too, also year-round schooling gives teachers insufficient time to prepare for the next school year. Even though year-round school gives students more breaks, there is no proof that it helps students academically. So traditional school is better and should stay in Florida.
Students learn better in year round schools. I say yes that student should have school all year long. The article says that kids forget what they learned over the summer. If students says in school all year long then they will not forget what they learned. Not many schools are doing all year long schools.
Since at least the 1970’s, the topic of year-round schooling has been debated by many people. This new system is spreading across the nation fast, in fact, in 2011-12, there were about 3700 schools that operated on the year-round schedule. (Zubrzycki 1,3). Like any other controversial topic, there are both benefits and drawbacks to the year-round schooling system. For instance, a definite benefit would be that, “...with one group of students always on vacation, a school that was built for 750 students can serve as many as 1000.
How much does summer vacation mean to you? That's the question many families ask themselves as they make the choice for year round schooling. With year round schooling students take several breaks, similar to a winter break in length, instead of one long break in the summer. Some people feel it is a terrible idea, while others say the academic aspect is superior. Although some people feel strong about year round schooling, year-round schooling is not the best educational option for students.
Year-round schools do not get 3 months off unlike traditional calendar schools. Having a whole summer off is nice but when you go back to school you have to review everything from last year because you weren’t getting the education during your 3-month break.
