Jackie was born on January 31st, 1914. When he came into the league everyone froze, they didn 't know what to do, Because they have never seen an African American again. Jackie hit 137 home runs, 4,887 at-bats, 3.1 batting average, 85 RBI, 29 stolen bases his MVP year and 125 runs scored.

Jackie played professional baseball. He played for the Brooklyn dodgers in 1946. He broke the color barrier when he became the first black professional athlete. He became MVP in 1949. He then was the world series champ in 1955.

Imagine that one of the greatest baseball players ever had to retire due to a life threatening condition, later to be named after him. That was what happened to the legendary Lou Gehrig. Lou Gehrig was a renowned baseball player for the New York Yankees in the early 1920’s. The “Iron Horse” as he was known, was forced to retire at a young age due to a life threatening disease called ALS and often known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Gehrig was a slugger and was loved by fans for not only for his ability to hit the ball out of the park, but also for his social influence in baseball.

Another was being the first black player in history in the MLB he had the guts, heart, and soul to be that player that had to take the hard road to get there. The last one at the end of his career he was the most honored first baseman in the league.
