Resident Evil VII (RE7) and The Last of Us vary massively when it comes to their interpretation of the survival horror genre. Both games begin with a similar premise: taking place 20+ years after a viral/fungal outbreak which turns the infected into violent mutants. When comparing and contrasting the two short stories “Battle Royal,” written by Ralph Ellison, and “Everyday Use,” written by Alice Walker, it is important to understand the time period in which the short stories took place. Battle Royal takes place during the 1940s. During this time period African Americans were trying to find their place in society after slavery. In the white’s eyes African Americans were free, but in reality blacks were still segregated and had no wealth, educational, economic, or social privileges. African Americans had to conform to white society to fit in, do as the white man says and be what the white man allows you to be, and you will do just fine in life.
Magic: The Gathering is one of the most complex games in the world, boasting over 25,000 unique cards, around 20 different formats both on and offline, and a rules book that could rival a legal code in verbosity and sheer length. While simple in concept, where the main objective is to bring your opponent's life total to zero using the cards in your deck, the sheer number of cards in the game makes it difficult to decide what strategy to play. There are just too many options. That said, several strategies in Magic: the Gathering fall between a spectrum of two archetypes: aggro and control. The archetypes aggro and control offer players a wide range of strategies for unique gameplay, each differing in the playstyle and strengths and weaknesses of each.
