General Zaroff is different, to say the least, in Richard Connell’s book, “The Most Dangerous Game.” Rainsford is stranded on a deserted island, or so he thinks. Rainsford comes upon a mansion that is owned by General Zaroff. He knows of Rainsford, who is a renowned author of a book about the hunt, as well as everything and everywhere Rainsford has hunted. General Zaroff is also a hunter, but he goes to the extreme. “The Most Dangerous Game” shows how wealth and power can change people as well as starting the downfall of civilization.

Fear is not real. It is the product of thoughts you create. Danger is very real, but fear is a choice. In the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character Rainsford is being hunted which creates fear in him. He is scared of dying but overcame his fear by facing the danger of the hunting game. Therefore, Rainsford won’t ever hunt again because he is traumatized by his experiences on the island.

Connell uses foreshadowing to create suspense throughout the story. The first instance of foreshadowing is right in the third paragraph. As Rainsford and Whitney are chatting on the boat, on their way to a hunting trip, Whitney points out an island. Whitney says about the island “ ‘The old charts call it Ship-Trap Island...suggestive name isn’t it?’ (15)”. He shows obvious dread of the island in his conversation with Rainsford. These statements foreshadow Rainsford getting trapped on the island. They make the readers feel uneasy about the island and fear for Rainsford and the rest of the crew which builds suspense. Another instance of foreshadowing in “The Most Dangerous Game” happens when Zaroff and Rainsford are having their conversation at supper. When Rainsford asks if Zaroff hunts cape buffalo, Zaroff states “ ‘[No,] I hunt more dangerous game’ (17)”. This foreshadows him revealing that he hunts men. One reason it's incorrect is because there is no such thing as a weak person. Another reason I believe that it's incorrect, is for no one is put on earth to solely please anyone.The last reason I believe it is incorrect, is because the world as a whole has changed.

Everyday people make decisions, some are made during life or death situations. Not everyone has to go to through a circumstance that is life or death, but some people do. Richard Connell once composed a fictional short story about a life or death situation. I have read the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell. In this story, Rainsford, a faimed author and hunter, falls off his ship and winds up on an island where he meets a man. This man turns out to be a former Russian General, General Zarroff. General Zarroff , it just so happens, is a hunter in his own but of a different nature. To escape the island he must outwit his host in the General’s own game of hunting. This requires him to go to extreme lengths to survive on the Devilish island he wound up on. In this journal, I will be evaluating General Zarroff and describing his personality.

“I’ll agree to do nothing of the kind,” is Rainsford’s response when he is asked not to speak of the island where a man goes for his favorite hobby; murder (Connell 37). Rainsford is just a poor sailor who swam onto Ship Trap Island to escape the frigid waters that he accidentally fell into. He meets General Zaroff and learns about his personality and actions. Shortly after that, Rainsford soon realizes he needs to get off of the island as soon as he can. He continues to keep a calm head throughout his stay. He knows what the right thing to do is and he does it every time. Rainsford will have to use his intelligence to win, at “The Most Dangerous Game.”

Ship-Trap Island is like the nightmare you will never wake up from. In the book “The Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, a hunter named Rainsford was sailing in the sea to go hunt in the Amazon when suddenly he falls off of his yacht due to strong waves late at night. He ends up at this mysterious island the next morning where a general named Zaroff finds him. At first, Zaroff seems friendly but later on he puts Rainsford through a challenge where Zaroff is hunting Rainsford down for three days and if Rainsford wins, he survives. If the general wins, Rainsford will be killed. General Zaroff used to hunt animals as a sport, but now he hunts people. Rainsford will never hunt again after having to go through the dangerous game and being frightened

This can be applied to many different species within the world. The theme is the overall meaning of the story. We can see this when Connell writes, “Be a realist. The world is made up of two classes--the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are hunters”. Then later on in the short story the main character has to adapt
