Zeus was the ruler of the sky and king of the gods. The Greeks believed he was all-knowing and all-seeing. Zeus was a son of Kronos and Rhea, members of an earlier race of rulers called the giants. But, Zeus, along with his brothers Poseidon and Hades, defeated Kronos. Zeus then took his place Kronos ' place and ruled from his home on Mount Olympus. According to “Work and Days” by Hesiod, Zeus was a carefree god who loved to laugh out loud. He was regarded as wise, fair, just, merciful, and prudent. He was also unpredictable – nobody was able to guess the decisions he would make. He was an easily angered person, he has been known to throw lightning bolts and cause violent storms.
