Franz Schubert, in my opinion, is considered as one of the last Classical Era composers and one of the pioneers of the Romantic Era composers. Schubert’s is an artist who devotes himself entirely to the arts, rather than chasing money and worldly gains. He has set a movement where many other composers would follow. In his 31 years of life he had written many works. He had more that 600 works on Lieder, 7 masses, 9 symphonies, including the Unfinished (No. 8,1822) and more. His famous piece, “Erlkönig”
John Scarne was an American magician and sleight of hand expert. He was born on March 4th, 1903 and died July 7th, 1985. As a boy, Scarne dreamed of being a gambler, but thankfully for the magic community, his Roman Catholic mother persuaded him to take up magic instead. Scarne would still become famous for many of his gambling sleights with cards, but he did not use them to cheat, most of the time. John Scarne became famous at an early age, he was best known for his signature effect, Scarne’s Aces
We typically do not give much thought to what we call “home”. We perceive home as somewhere we go after a long day, somewhere we can enjoy the simpler pleasures in life away from the restlessness of work. However in The Droughtlanders by Carrie Mac, it challenges our general notion of home for an unorthodox one—a notion that a home goes outside of comfort zones, rather than inside them. At face value, the Keys have everything: it is rich, secure, and organized. But by glimpsing outside its walls

It has come to my concern that the Oak Hills school is considering lifting the strict no cell phone policy at school. Many people say that cell phones can be used as a teaching tool and that students need to use them correctly. I think cell phones should be banned from school because not all the students have cell phones, they can be used inappropriately, and they are negatively affecting student’s grades. Not every one of the students at Oak Hills have cell phones. In fact, several students at Oak

In this essay I will discuss Sartre’s critical engagement with Western Modernity and its problematic practices of colonialism. In short one of Sartre’s critique on Western Modernity is saying that the Europeans are making themselves into monsters, humanism asserts that they are one whole with all of humanity, but their racist methods set them apart. He also states that they are wasting their time with un-personal litanies, this Europe where all they talk about is Man but then kill men left right

Hector Berlioz (1803-1869) was one of the most well-known composers of the romantic period. In 1826, he enrolled as a student at the Conservatoire de musique et de declamation in Paris, where he began his musical journey. In the book Fences by August Wilson, the author chooses baseball to compare many of the struggles everyday people deal with in everyday society. August Wilson created some very relatable characters to portray the message of life and love Fences attempts to display. It is ultimately displayed in a quote by the main character Troy Maxson. Troy said “That’s all death is to me. A fastball on the outside corner” (10). In this quote, Troy even compares the end of life to a dangerous pitch that is hard
Track 3: When Doves Cry Prince, Purple Rain The Purple Rain film followed the same redemption storyline as the record, and it added fictional flesh to Prince’s journey of moral enlightenment. It was the tale of a kid from a broken family who had trouble with relationships. He was a controlling brat who shut people out of his life. He was unable to hold onto love, until he finally found peace with who he was, and he found that peace by discovering a bond with his father. The movie aggregated all

Semiotics is defined as the “The science of signs, or the study of signs and sign systems.” (O’Shaugnessy and Stadler, 2012:131). This essay will be a semiotic analysis
The word “ballet” brings to mind words such as “grace” or “beauty” when heard by many people. The definition itself states that it is a form of dance that uses precise steps and light, graceful motions. This definition was in the minds of those who attended the Théâtre des Champs-Élysèes in May 1913, but rather they were greeted with the complete opposite. When Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Rite of Spring opened, the audience was greeted with swift, chaotic music that quickly became a whirlwind of sound
Penalty taking and Game theory Penalty shootout is a method used in order to find out who is the winner after a soccer match that is drawn. The team who scores the most goals after 5 attempts is the winner. The goal is defended by the goalkeeper of the opposite team and it represents one of the most difficulties tasks a goalkeeper can face. Game theory is a theory “that deals with strategies for maximising gains and minimising losses within prescribed constraints” (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/game+theory)
There were many musical elements heard throughout these pieces and it was interesting to hear how they varied in each song and suite. In Intermezzo, it began with a quieter violin solo melody creating a monophonic texture. Soon after, it became accompanied by the other violins and cellos, then the full ensemble came in creating a moderate, flowing melody at about mezzo forte and switching to a polyphonic texture. Next, there was a harp solo at forte with many crescendos and decrescendos. The full
