Abstract To better understand the metabolism of freeze resistant ectotherms we studied the hibernation of Rana Pipiens (leopard frog). My hypothesis is that as temperature decreases and increases the metabolism of the leopard frog will respond in direct correlation. We tested this hypothesis in a sealed and controlled environment with per-determined concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide at a specific rate of 50 cc per minute, and then measured the output of the carbon dioxide at room temperature

A lynx’s keen vision earns this cat legendary status in the myths of many cultures. In Greek, Norse, and North American myths, the lynx sees what others can’t, and its role is revealing hidden truths. The lynx
considered a subpar style of life for many. In Small Frogs Killed on the Highway By James Wright, Wright conveys a message perfectly touching on the issue of taking chances. The speaker of the poem reflects on his past choices through describing frogs optimizing their opportunities by deciding to risk death and attempt to cross a road. Throughout the poem Wright uses objects riddled with either deeper meanings or dual meanings. Why are frogs latently compared to humans? What is the purpose of all
Amphibians are cold-blooded animals that contain unique structures in their bodies and have engaged in behavioral mechanisms allowing them to survive and reproduce for millions of years. Amphibians skin is extremely thin and possess glands which secrete toxins as a defense mechanism against predators (Daly, 1995). Colour patterns on the skin serves for predator defense, mating, and ultraviolet (UV) light protection (Qvarnström, Rudh 2013). In order to ensure survival and reproduction, their behaviour

Since kissing frogs has officially been discounted as a method of obtaining princes (sorry ladies), why would anyone want to lick a toad? Toad cartoonThe urban legend is that licking a toad can get you high. Indeed, Homer Simpson is seen licking toads and going on bizarre trips, as well as the infamous stories of hippies in the 70s who kept 'toad farms.' These stories are based on the fact that certain types of toad can produce psychoactive compounds in their skins and venoms, which can then be licked
It is shocking how quickly people can change from being good to becoming savages. In Lord of the Flies, a plane crashed and some schoolboys got stranded on an island where they have to survive on their own but end up failing and become savages. Chapter 9 concluded with having Simon go out to find the beast and discovers there is no beast; on his way back everybody is dancing in the rain and eating meat, but when they see this figure coming down, they think it’s the beast so they end up killing the

observing what happens during these winters, I’ve wondered what happens to frogs. I decided to research frogs in New England and see what happens to them in the winter. The observational question I came up with it, how have frogs adapted and learned to cope with harsh New England winters? After researching frogs, I learned that the species has adapted over time and learned to survive

Twain’s “The Incredible Jumping Frog” The precarious ole day was coming to an end, while the rain seemed to be lurking above, ready to pour out, I was walking home through the terrain. There wasn’t much to do on a day like today. All I had done was listen to a fellow go on and on monotonously about racing animals. I couldn’t help but think about that garrulous old man Simon Wheeler and the continuation of the story of Leonidas W. Smiley’s frog. Wheeler heard his name called from the courtyard. He
