In today’s world satire is embedded into several things. Some things it’s embedded into is cartons, playwrights, movies, passages, jokes, etc. The play “The Acharnians” by Aristophanes and “The Word- Armistice” by Stephen Colbert uses satire and has several similarities and differences.

Voltaire is considered one of the most important Satirist in literature . He was born in Paris in 1694 . He has been very intelligent since his children . He wrote Candide at the age of 24 . Candide is his masterpiece . Through that essay , we 'll discuss the genre of the novel . Next we 'll show if Candide is a proper hero to pinpoint what the writer intends to review . Dystopia as a genre is a literature of fictional writing tends to engage with social and political structures, in a dark and nightmare world. It is deliberately written to frighten and warn the readers and society’s fellow of totalitarian and suppressive government. Dystopia is a novel of enlightenment. It’s about the self discovery. It’s a social commentary based on particular event in history. It’s a kind of warning to the public. Satire is a lot like sarcasm in a way. There are two types of satire: juvenalian and horatian satire. Jevenalian means that the type of satire is harsh and evil. Horatian satire is more gentle and peaceful. Chaucer uses both types in his writings. Chaucer will use satire in his writings to critique three sacred institutes.

In Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, there is a dystopian society where simply owning a book in a home results in the home being burnt to the ground by the firemen in that society. Guy Montag, one of the firemen, is curious as to what the censored books hold in them. Throughout the novella, Montag meets two characters labeled as “strange” by the society: Clarisse McClellan and Professor Faber. Clarisse is a 17 year old girl, who is a free thinker. She also gets Montag to think out of the box. She suddenly disappears before the second part of the novella. Faber is a retired English professor who has a few books hidden in his home. He believes that this type of society is wrong, but he is too nervous to speak out against it. This dystopian society is a satire of this current society, making others who read this novella to reflect upon it. Satire is the use of exaggeration and humor to expose and criticize people’s vices, usually in the background of contemporary issues. The author uses satire to expose problems such as police brutality, lack of communication, and censorship. All of these problems are important to expose, but one is more important in this time period than any of the other two problems.

Our Year 10 Drama class performed a satirical performance called the 10 best worst things about high school. The play was written by M.G. Davidson. This performance is about the different things high school students experience, for example friends, school clubs, field trips, cinema, gradation, prom and sports. As a kid I remember there used to be this unintentionally funny commercial that to do this day perplexes me.
