The events that occurred on September, 11, 2001 were among the most catastrophic events in American history. The events of the day were summarized as 19 militants associated with the terror group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out targeted attacks in the United States. Out of the four planes, two of them were flown into the World Trade Center in New York, a third one into the Pentagon in Washington and the fourth one crashing off course into a field. The attacks resulted in the deaths of over 3000 people and the beginning of a soon to come American counter terrorism policy and the subsequent invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Although there are a lot of conspiracy theories around the real motives and players behind the attack, …show more content…
claimed links between Sadam Hussein and Osama bin laden nor due to their possession of weapons of mass destruction but rather to seize Iraq’s vast oil reserves. As taught in the previous lessons, chaos theory is when tiny changes in initial conditions result in large impacts in final outcomes. This concept has been used to theorize that the events that happened in the 9/11 attacks were used to a final result that was far greater in the invasion of two countries and the extraction of Iraqi oil. Although the 3000 deaths that occurred as a result of 9/11 were certainly not justifiable that following war on terror lead to the estimated deaths of over two million people. Another widely theorized conspiracy concept is the one of patternicity. Shermer in the article presents two types of patterns, of which type 1 believing there is a pattern when there isn’t any and type 2 believes there is no pattern when there is. This patternicity theory is applied to the attacks on 9/11 as it is believed that the United States used the attacks along with the claim of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to invade and extract their goal which was believed by many conspiracy theorists to be oil. As the author said, most people tend to make type 1 patterns as it is better to be safe than
After the horrible attack on the World Trade center on September 11, 2001, people began to analyze footage of the incident and make speculations about the “truth” behind 9/11. Conspiracy theories arose as people were seeking for a reason behind this attack. It seems totally absurd that people would believe that our own government planned an attack that devastated all of America, but according to Professor Quassim Cassam, a philosopher from the University of Warwick, out of 16,000 people less than half of those people believe that the attacks were done by the terrorist group known as al-Qaeda. We may put into question; why do so many people allow themselves to believe that there is a truth behind the truth? There is no simple answer to this
Behind these attacks there are many conspiracy theories such as; the fall of the Twin Towers was a controlled demolition or “There have been claims and suggestions that Bush used the 9/11 attacks—or even engineered them—as a pretext to engage in wars and increase the state security infrastructure” (Suhrie/Corbis). The theory presented that controlled demolition orchestrated the fall of the Twin Towers has been proven to be illegitimate. Scientific evidence and explanations debunked the claims in the theory, explaining the collapse of the Twin Towers. Concluding, on September 1, 2001, the fall of the Twin Towers was the result of a terrorist attack against the United States and not controlled demolition by another
The 9/11 cover-up is a conspiracy theory that our government planned this attack. Some other people think it was just a terrorist attack. The 9/11 is where the World Trade Center Towers (Twin Towers) fell down because of two planes that hit both towers. 42% of Americans believe that our government planned this, and the other half of the Americans which is 58% believe that it was the Islamic terrorists. The Twin Towers were built on April 4, 1973, and the attack was on September 11, 2001.
There were many events that led up to 9/11. In the book The Looming Tower Al - Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 by Lawrence Wright the reader gets to see what led up to 9/11. The reader gets to see the major factors and power shifts that gave way to Al – Qaeda being the powerhouse it became. In the last few chapters of the book Lawrence Wright talks about 9/11 the event and what came after the tragedy and how the U.S. handled them. Lawrence Wright spent nearly five years tracking down as many people as he could find who had any knowledge of what happened on this tragic day.
The 9/11 Truth Movement is a social movement that aims to expose the lies and cover-ups surrounding the events of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. The members of this group, which include people from all professions, races, and socio-economic levels, wish to promote investigations and research regarding these attacks, seek justice for those hurt or killed on September 11th due to these events, advance the knowledge the American population has on this subject, and eventually replace the United States government system that orchestrated these events ("Our Mission"). Individuals involved in this movement believe these events were orchestrated by the US government “to justify the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which
History of the Debate After what happened on September 11 in 2001, conspiracists started to spread the word about what is seen today as the mythology of the 9/11 conspiracy. 2,977 innocent people were killed in an elaborate plot by the CIA and FBI in order to suppress civil liberties and benefit their allies in the oil and gas industry. The scheme by the Bush administration was successful in gaining the popular agreement of the American people to be in accordance with the otherwise unsupportable wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. There is no exact or perfect timeline about the progression of belief in the theory of a planned event. But in the early years of the decade, at least, it was relegated to the far reaches of the American political spectrum,
Davidsson explains that the assumption that conspiracy theories are a paranoia style made media critical of presenting such theories. Hence, the media’s report obtained from the government blinded the public into believing Al-Qaeda, a radical Islamic terrorist, was responsible for the attack. Davidsson gave numerous examples to show the US government’s constant obsession with secrecy regarding what had happened on 9/11. Davidsson makes it clear to readers that the US government has not provided any legitimate evidence that shows the nineteen hijackers relationship with Al-Qaeda.
I’m currently reading a book by Naomi Klein called Disaster Capitalism that has led me back to the worst terrorist attack in United States history, 9/11. I remember how CNN and Fox were being flooded with the news daily. The story told was, Al-Qaeda members crashed commercial airplanes into the world trade center and the pentagon killing thousands of people. This event is the center of a popular conspiracy theory, because of what unfolded after. The United States invaded Afghanistan and Iraq on the presumption they had nuclear weapons, and introduced the patriot act.
Conspiracies. The list can go on and on: Area 51 and the “Aliens,” are secret societies controlling the world, were the moon landings faked, the CIA and the AIDS virus, etc. One of the most known and least understood conspiracy is, ‘did Lee Harvey Oswald work alone in the assassination of JFK?’ Although the evidence implied that Lee Oswald in the assassination, some citizens remained unconvinced that he had acted alone. There is substantial evidence showing the likelihood of a second gunman.
The 9/11 Truth movement is a social movement made up of individuals, and related organizations, who disbelieve the official investigation results of what happened during the September 11 attacks in 2001: that al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four airplanes, crashing two of them into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon and the final one, unintentionally, in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Adherents of the movement refer to themselves as 9/11 truthers, 9/11 skeptics, or truth activists but are commonly referred to as conspiracy theorists by many who are not part of the movement. Semantics aside, they believe that the US government, agencies in the US, or individuals within were responsible for, or purposefully allowed, the 9/11 attacks and that the blame does not lie solely on previously unknown
A conspiracy theory is something that explains an event or set of circumstances that are the result of a secret plot usually by a group of powerful people, sometimes the government themselves. The word theory does not apply when there is evidence to back-up a claim, this claim now becomes a possibility. There have been many examples of conspiracy theories throughout history such as, was Lee Harvey Oswald acting alone when he shot President Kennedy, was Princess Diana was really killed by accident. One of the most infamous conspiracy theories in recent history centred on September 11th 2001(9/11), when three passenger jets crashed into some of America’s most iconic landmarks, the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. This act was thought
All of these events demonstrated that al-Qaeda could carry out terrifying attacks thousands of miles away from its base in Afghanistan. Al- qaeda’s leaders did not care about their gruesome actions. In their minds, God was on their side so they could do no wrong. Many people to this day still question our government about the 9/11 attacks and why someone did not take action before it got to this point.
September 11th, 2001, a date marked by history. A day where thousands of Americans would wake up to their family, their friends, and the world one last time. Over 3,000 lives taken away because of the actions of a few terrorists who wanted nothing more than to watch America fall to the ground. Suicide Bombers cause global terror, and their motives and strategies are all part of a complex system of sacrifice and glory. Justifying the actions of these terrible people is almost impossible, but learning the origin of suicide bombers, examining their tactics, and discussing their motives will provide a better look inside the mind of a bomber and possibly give an explanation as to why terrorist attacks occur.
However, today 's conspiracies are mainly focused on insiders such as the Government, Wall Street and the Military. Conspiracy theories started just a few days after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, DC. Rather than to accept that Islamic terrorists flew planes into buildings and killed innocent people, 9/11 conspiracy theorists believe that the attack included members of their own government. That somehow the Bush administration was either behind the attacks or simply allowed them to happen.
The effects of 911 attack on twin towers was huge to Americans and the world. The short term effects would be sadness and shocks felt by the Americans and the destruction of the tower. It led to the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. Both of these effects led to the rising hated between Middle east and USA. The terrorist group Al-Qaeda, which claimed the responsibility of the attack on Twin Towers was formed at a meeting gathered by Osama Bin Laden in August 1988 They claimed to protect their own country or kingdom when American forces arrived in Saudi Arabia to prepare for the first gulf war.
