Giving a speech whether being for the public or not, offers personal, professional, and public benefits for the individual. The individual might find it easier to obtain a profession, build better relationships amongst peers, or even propel social movements by carefully constructing and delivering a well thought out speech. A speech needs to be excellent in order to do such things; it needs to have a clear concise thesis, a preview statement, a great organizational pattern, supporting material, memory, delivery and good representation of oneself. Thus, during the process of constructing and delivering a speech, one must have those aspects. This will ensure the speaker will deliver a powerful and moving speech. He introduces the topic with humor, immediately grabbing the attention of most of the audience including myself. While listening to him speak, I knew without hesitation it was informational rather than persuasive as he did not use a persuasive tone of voice nor persuaded the audience to believe something rather than the other. As he further introduces his speech I found his thesis statement to be excellent as he states “We should compare witch craft in the context of the history of ideas and science” (Marschke). To give such a strong thesis statement, it gave the audience a clear understanding of what is soon to be explained. Continuing with his speech, he provided a clear preview statement as “realism, science would be magic and how we look for answers, and the way women were stereotyped” (Marschke). This gave me as a listener a road map to follow through the remainder of his talk. However, there was a major flaw when presenting the introduction, he took a very long time to express his preview statement and left me wondering what exactly is he mumbling about within the first ten minutes. Marschke presented a few aspects of the intro that seemed as though he obtained it form a scholarly source, not mentioning where you obtain your supporting material can discredit your credibility, otherwise known as plagiarizing. Transitioning towards the body of his speech, he explicitly mentioned a certain point that stood out to me. Marschke explained the point of popularity and how a subject, if became popular, can change the viewpoint of the
He really takes the time to explain all of his thoughts thoroughly. He makes sure to give plenty of examples throughout the book. He even quotes politicians and he explains whether what they said is right or wrong. By doing this he tackles a number of myths and explains why they are not true. I found it intriguing how he compiles and deciphers his data.
The author’s tone puts us in the middle of the journey. It was as if she made us feel the emotions and pain the family felt through every step of the process. She builds suspense as we read about the different theories Plebuch and her sister had during their journey to find the truth. Copeland’s tone is also very informative and factual. She uses statistics, quotes, and other examples to reinforce the purpose of her article and to support the
Many of the ideas he presents in his book make sense and are understandable. His thoughts are unique which keep the reader interested and intrigued to find out
Quindlen’s introduction gives many opposing views, yet fails to refute them, or acknowledge them at any other part. Additionally, her introduction is four paragraphs long, and leaves a reader searching deeply for a thesis.
Due to the readers being able relate, a connection of trust and persuasion is created between the author and the audience. Therefore, Thompson's arguments and claims are very convincing and provide enough evidence to the extent where the reader is comfortable reading and trusting
Good Morning Mr. Sale, I know that you are working to find a good niche for me, but I thought it might be useful to put in writing some ways that I think can serve the students of Swain County. AP USH. I would like to continue teaching AP for a few more years until I can mentor someone to take over the program. I believe that AP provides a valuable opportunity for our students to learn academic skills that will help them succeed in college, but more importantly, I think it helps them hone their “grit” skills. They often realize they can achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Introducing me to recruiters is a rhetorical situation. The rhetorical situation is different from school, because it needs more professional explanations on why I desire the job and how I can make more contributions to the company. Introducing me to recruiters is more difficult than I deliver a speech at a school, because the audiences have a more strict evaluation standard than teachers’ standard. Audiences need to know my real work competencies, communication skills and what benefits that I can produce, and they are professional and rigid. I want to obtain their attentions, making them know that I am an excellent applicant.
1) Of the three primary units we have completed in this course, the most challenging unit for me was the argument (persuasion) unit. I was surprised at how much I struggled both in the pre-writing process and in the writing process. To begin with, because I love arguments, I had trouble choosing a topic. In the end, I decided to challenge myself with the policy that requires sex offender to be added to a public registry policy. Instead of going with my initial stance (opposition), I decided to flip the scrip and argue the opposite of what I believe (proposition).
Into The Wild Analysis “Death is more universal than life; everyone dies but not everyone lives,” stated Alan Sachs. This applies to Chris McCandless who always had to live life to the fullest. Chris McCandless wanted to live a life away from others for many different reasons. He had issues with emotional intimacy with others and himself. He always needed to live the extremes of life.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.--Daxter Miles Jr. scored 23 points as No. 10 West Virginia University defeated No. 24 Iowa State 87-76 on Senior Night in front of a sold out Coliseum crowd. With the victory, the Mountaineers (24-7, 12-6 Big 12) sealed the second seed in the Big 12 Tournament behind top-ranked Kansas. Nathan Adrian recorded 16 points and seven rebounds in his final home game. Jevon Carter had 13 points and eight boards. Elijah Macon added 10.
I did not really understand what aristotle, on rhetoric was talking about. What I did get out of it was that enthymeme is an argument in which one premise is not explicitly stated. In chapter 23 it talks about weather the opposite has the opposite quality. SOme of the lines of proof are based upon modification of the key-word, correlative ideas, is to apply to the other speaker what he has said against yourself, and hat if two results are the same their antecedents are also the same. When an argument is put side by side it is clear to the aducince.
“Honey, you are changing that boy’s life.” A friend of Leigh Anne’s exclaimed. Leigh Anne grinned and said, “No, he’s changing mine.” This exchange of words comes from the film trailer of an award-winning film, The Blind Side, directed by John Lee Hancock, released on November 20th, 2009. This film puts emphasis on a homeless, black teen, Michael Oher, who has had no stability or support in his life thus far.
Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses diction like abstract diction and details by explaining what he exactly wants in life to demonstrate Walter and his dream. To begin, Hansberry uses diction to demonstrate Walter and his dream by using abstract diction. She does this by explaining how he will give Travis anything for his seventeenth birthday and that he will “hand you the world!” (2.2). This shows that he wants to make his sons life as good as possible.
While his opinion is abundantly clear, he intelligently and craftily builds exceedingly relatable analogies for the reader. He tees the unsuspecting reader off with a light
