Adnan Syed who is now 35, was sentenced to life in 1999 for the murder of his girlfriend Hae Min Lee. Was he innocent or guilty? Syed was blamed guilty but in the podcast Serial, the host Sarah Koenig discovers many things about the day of the murder and different sides of the story. Adnan Syed is innocent. As Sarah Koenig interviews the friends and family of Adnan Syed she learns lots of information the judges and detectives decided to disregard. She discovers information that could potentially free Adnan or at the minimum give him another trial. The first reason why Adnan might be innocent is because when Hae and Adnan broke up he took it like a normal person would. He didn’t have rage in him according to his friends and the people around him. This makes sense because if Adnan …show more content…
Mr.S was able to spot Hae’s body when no one else could. The body was well hidden so how could he have found it. ”How could he notice the body? I don’t understand that either. I mean it’s pretty well covered.”Episode 3: Leakin Park p.46. The body was under leaves and was well hidden. How could Mr.S find the body? To spot a body that well hidden would mean that the person who found would know where it was and would be the one who placed it there.”Hae’s body was buried right behind this log on the stream side. If you were standing on the street side of the log, so on the other side, it’s not at all obvious that you’d notice her. So this story about why he stopped where he stopped, it doesn’t quite seem right.” Episode 3: Leakin Park p. 44. Here Sarah is describing how Hae’s body was placed. If the body was was on the other side of the street and buried under a log then how was it so easy for him to spot it. Therefore this evidence shows that Adnan is innocent because there is a possibility that Mr.S could have buried Hae or even killed
What's so interesting is that the city surveyor named Philip Buddemeyer wonders how did Mr. S see the body. According to Philip Buddemeyer, he couldn’t even locate where the body was because it blended in with the natural surroundings of the ground. The crime investigator , Justin George also stated that all he can make out from the picture from the
A High school student was thrown in jail for murdering his ex girlfriend. But was it really him or was it someone who misled the cops? Is an innocent man serving time in prison for a crime he did not commit? Jay Wilds killed Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, a 17 year old boy, was convicted of murdering his ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.
When Hae’s body was found in Leakin Park, she was laying on her side and twisted. After she was found the medical examiners and the forensic pathologists who reviewed her body and the crime scene claimed her body showed it was in a face down position and stretched out for eight to ten hours, which explains fixed frontal lividity. Lividity takes place after death, when all the blood pools from the victim’s body shift to a part of the body closest to the ground. The reason this evidence was not used in trial was likely because the explanation of the lividity proves she was moved to the burial site after lividity had become permanent, which means her body was not dumped in Leakin Park at around 7pm and she was hidden in a place with her body laid flat for eight to ten hours before buried in Leakin Park. What this autopsy report shows, anyone who is guilty of a murder would likely bury the body as quickly as possible as opposed to hiding the body hours
He cared about her well-being and he tried to make sure she was okay after she didn’t pick up her cousin from school as she always does. Adnan cared for her even though they broke
Recently, I foucused on the famous podcast serial that a teenager, Hae Min Lee was killed in January, 1999. Hae’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed, the convicted murder has gone in the jail suffering the life sentences for about fifteen years. As the new investigation started, more and more factual evidences and testimonies testified that Adnan was still the most potential murder for Hae’s case. The motive for Adnan murder Hae was Hae broke up with Adnan.
Adnan didn't have the personality of someone who would do this. Time and time again, people have said he doesn’t seem to be obsessed with Hae, or that he is a good kid, etc. When the number of people saying Adnan would never do this is so high, and Jay Wild's statements are the only ones saying he would, it becomes suspicious in my opinion. While I believe Adnan's personality is one of the main proofs of his innocence, there is still a way that he would have committed this crime. First, many of the quotes are from people who used to be close to him.
Piers Anthony once said, “When one person makes an accusation, check to be sure he himself is not the guilty one. Sometimes it is those whose case is weak who make the most clamor.” When someone is accused of a crime , there must be a sufficient amount of solid evidence to prove their guilt. In the podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig, Serial, goes over a murder case from over fifteen years ago. It is easily perceived that Adnan Syed was falsely incriminated for killing his ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.
Adnan Syed Trial: NOT GUILTY Can a court really convict someone of murder if it doesn’t have any hard evidence? Although the answer should be no, this sometimes happens, such as in the case of Adnan Syed. He was a teenage boy who was accused of murder; however, he was a good kid who had never been in trouble before. He was an athlete and got along well with most of his peers. Then, he was charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, put on trial, and eventually convicted.
Adnan is adamant and staunch when talking about only having love and respect towards Hae and that he never will kill her. Adnan talks about the accusations being made about him. He does not agree with them, he states how no one can prove that he is angry with her. “People could say why. Oh, man, he is mad, this, that, or the other.
Another convincing reason for believing Adnan’s guilty is there was another victim involved in the murder, Jay. It all starts when Adnan left school to go to Jay’s house to see if he had gotten a present for his girlfriend, they went to the mall and Adnan had told Jay his plan of killing Hae. Then they go back to the school and Adnan leaves his keys and phone with him and says to wait for his call after he had killed Hae. Later, that afternoon he receives a call from Adnan saying that he killed her and to come pick him up from Best Buy. He goes to Best Buy and saw her body in her own car in the trunk already dead with her blue lips.
That is one of the strongest arguments against Adnan. Knowing this, we can still confirm Adnan is innocent because looking at Jay’s character, we can see that he’s the type of guy who would call a best friends girl to try to get to know her. This could be one explanation for this
This was quite the battle for Adnan Syed, a young oriental male who was accused of murdering his long-time girlfriend in January of 1999. Hae-Min Lee, Adnan’s girlfriend, went missing in January and her body was found buried in a local park 3 weeks later. Adnan Syed is innocent of killing Hae-Min Lee because of three reasons: Cristina Gutierrez, Adnan’s lawyer, failed to put him in a position to win the trial, Jay is not an effective witness, and the window of time does not match up. Adnan is not at fault
An evidence that makes Adnan guilty is when the State “contended that Hae was killed between 2:15 and 2:36 parking lot, about a mile from Woodlawn High School” (Chen 16). Basically, Adnan and Hae were together during that time frame where Adnan strangled her at the Best Buy parking lot. Adnan told Jay to come pick him up afterwards. This aligns perfectly with Jay’s story because he told the detectives that Adnan had killed Hae at the Best Buy parking lot. Thus, making Adnan the prime suspect since he was last seen with Hae.
Asia claimed she saw him the day of the murder in the library while she was with her boyfriend and boyfriend’s friend. She also claims that they had a conversation that day. Also, he could be innocent because Jay’s testimony had multiple inconsistencies. For instance, in Jay’s testimony he talked about how he and Adnan went up to Patapsco State Park to smoke and that's when Adnan and him talked about Hae, but when he testified in court, the whole story on it disappeared like it never happened. Because of these inconsistencies, Jay is not a reliable source at all and should not be the main determining factor in whether or not Adnan is
