Is the murderer truly guilty or was he at the wrong place at the wrong time? In the podcast Serial by Sarah Koenig has an impact on Adnan being guilty of murdering Hae Min Lee. The explanation of the lasting impact of guilt for murder underlines the difficult question that surrounds Adnan regarding whether he is guilty of murdering Hae min lee. There are many debates on how Adnan is guilty but there are two that stick out. Adnan Syed is guilty of killing Hae min lee because of the cell phone records pinpointed near the burial site where Hae’s body was discovered. Another argument for why Adnan Syed is guilty is from Jay’s testimony where he mentions Adnan killing Hae in Hae’s car. Adnan Syed is guilty of killing Hae min lee because of the cell phone records pinpointed near the burial site where Hae’s body was discovered. When Sarah says “So. According to Adnan, he was with the phone and twice that night. The phone pinged near Lincoln Park. so bad for Adnan “ ( Episode 5 Serial ) this quote shows that the cell phone presented at trial for Adnan’s cell phone near the burial site could resolve in Adnan being guilty. Which was a really significant piece of evidence against Adnan's case. The quote demonstrates the accuracy and consistency of the cell phone records which could rely on Adnan being guilty. …show more content…
When Jay says “And he takes the keys. He opens the trunk. And all I can see is Hae’s lips are all blue. And she’s pretzeled up in the back of the trunk. And she’s dead “ ( Episode 1 Serial ) this quote shows that jay claimed to have seen Hae’s body in the trunk also describing she was strangled in her own car. This piece of evidence is very big against Adnan's case which could put Adnan at the risk of being guilty. There were many interviews saying that Adnan did ride with Hae in her car which could be accurate for Jay’s testimony leaving Adnan
There was not enough evidence to prove if Adnan was innocent or guilty. There were multiple people that said that Jay had Adnan’s phone but Adnan called Jay at least twice which means that Adnan would have had to use a payphone or borrow a phone. And supposedly Adnan was sitting in the best buy parking lot when he called Jay. Also in the time it took
Jay provides a plethora of information for the state that is just credible enough to ensure that Adnan would be convicted and not himself. Jay protecting himself in court is why Adnan receives such an unfair
Jay Wilds was the state’s main, and only, witness. He says that Adnan killed Hae and then he called Jay from a phone booth outside of a Best Buy to show him the body and to ask him what to do. Afterwards, they both drive around a bit, get high, drive some more, bury Hae together, and then drive back home. There is even cellphone evidence to support Jay’s story. This all seems bad for Adnan until you look deeper into Jay’s story.
The state uses Jay as their key witness in the case against Adnan, but Jay's story changed where Adnan showed him Haes body. Jay says in one of his testimonies that Adnan showed him Haes body in the Best Buy parking lot, then he changes it in his testimony to “I went to pick him up from off of Edmondson Avenue at a strip and he, uh, popped the trunk open and…”(Serial 05.17). Jay was a friend of Adnan’s: they smoked weed and hung out together. The day of the murder according to Jay was that he picked up Adnan after he killed Hae and left her in the trunk of her car. This is where the two different places that he mentioned where Adnan showed Jay Hae’s body is the Best Buy parking lot and a strip off of Edmondson Avenue are important because these places aren’t similar either, one is a tech store and the other is an outdoor drug market.
Either way they both support the fact that Adnan was not given an effective lawyer. Adnan also has no real motive for the murder. This is important because motive is a key factor in identifying a murder as it explains their intentions and gives a reasonable explanation on why they had committed the crime. The prosecution, not being able to give a convincing motive, raises doubt as to whether Adnan had a reason and if he really was responsible for the crime. The prosecution claims that Adnan killed Hae out of rage due to their breakup, however there is no real evidence to support this.
The prosecution case against Adnan Syed was mainly based on the testimony of Jay wilds, who said he helped bury Hae Min Lee's body. Jay's testimony was supported by the cell phone records that placed Adnan on the site on the Day Hae Min Lee disappeared. According to the prosecution, the evidence sayed that Adnan had a motive to Kill Hae, because he was jealous and possessive of her. However, there are inconsistinces in Jay’s testimony, which has changed multiple times over the years. Some people also claimed that He was pressured into providing false testimony by the police.
.I think that kind of sums it up for Jay. Adnan Syed is innocent of the murder of Hae Min Lee because there is hardly any evidence leading to Adnan being guilty. The first reason I believe Adnan is innocent is witnesses said Adnan was at the library at the time Hae was murdered therefore it is impossible for Adnan
Adnan is then accused of the murder of his former girlfriend. Adnan Syed is not guilty. He did not kill Hae Min out of spite after they split, he is never seen with Hae after school or in her car, and he has a strong alibi with two witnesses. Adnan did not kill Hae out of spite as they had a mutual breakup.
Adnan Syed is innocent. He did not murder Hae Min Lee. The reasons Adnan was wrongly convicted is: Adnan has consistently maintained innocence, Jay’s story is in consistent, the call tracking isn’t reliable, the Asia affidavit proves otherwise, post mortem results of Hae’s body debunked the states story, and people who knew Adnan and Hae said the break up wasn’t messy. In summary, Adnan is innocent. Adnan had been in captivity for almost 15 years.
“The most incriminating piece of physical evidence against Adnan Syed was a fingerprint, or rather, a palmprint. On a map (Sarah Koenig-Serial- 128)”. There was one page ripped out from this map and come to find it was the page that showed Leakin Park and more places like their neighborhood, the malls, the school, and other places they drove 90 percent of the time. Although Adnan’s fingerprint or palm print wasn’t found on this page I can not help but wonder why this page would be ripped out. From my point of view, I see this as a very suspicious piece of evidence towards Adnan.
The series contains interviews with essential witnesses, including Syed, and looks closely at the prosecution's case against him. However, the series also highlights the case's anomalies and raises doubts about Syed's guilt. In the "The Case Against Adnan Syed: A Timeline of Key Events and Evidence," article, Jessica Chou gives a timeline of the events leading up to Syed's conviction as well as the evidence presented at trial. According to Chou, "Syed's cell phone records were used to place him near the crime scene, but the reliability of cell phone records has been questioned" (Chou).
One piece of evidence proves that Adnan is innocent. Jay’s presented in his testimony that after Adnan killed Hae near the Best Buy, he called Jay through a phone booth to his own phone. According to Jay, Adnan left his phone to Jay, so that he could call him back after he gets her body. Koenig researched all the phone booths around 1999, to collect call records of the phone booth. After a thorough investigation, Koenig couldnt find any phone booths near the Best Buy that Jay reported of.
These two reasons are all that a person should need to believe that Adnan didn't have enough motive, or time, to kill Hae. Jays testimony sets the timeline and proves there is enough evidence, which is not presented by Adnan’s lawyer, to say Adnan is innocent by a straying story. The time period where Hae could've been killed does not match Adnan’s timeline. Jay, who is a convicted felon, was the only witness and is trusted to give a good story. Cristina Gutierrez, who was Adnan’s lawyer, had medical issues that distracted her from using useful information in his case.
It’s a highly debatable topic whether or not Adnan Syed is innocent or guilty in the murder of Hae Min Lee, and I believe that Adnan should be let go from jail. There is very compelling evidence, that points to Adnan not being the one to murder his ex girlfriend. From Jay switching up stories, Asia Mclain's handwritten letters that she wrote to Adnan, stating that she indeed saw him at the local library on January 13th 1999, to Adnan not showing signs of even being mentally unstable. There is many more that I could go in great detail about, but these three focal points stand out to me as key evidence in Adnan's innocence. One reason why Adnan is innocent, is because Jay doesn’t know which story to use.
Adnan said, “I’m pretty sure I was at track practice but I don’t know.” This is evidence that Adnan is innocent. This is the evidence we
