If you were charged for a murder you did not commit, what would you do? Adnan Syed was sentenced to prison after he was found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee. But there are a few small details that make significant complications within the case. Though many of these details cannot be fully proved nor entirely refuted, they could have been the reason for Adnan's rightful freedom. Today, he is incarcerated in a Baltimore prison awaiting appeal.
To start off, let's talk about a woman named Asia McClain. She was Adnan's former school mate at Woodlawn high school who claims to have seen Adnan Syed in the school library around the time of the murder. Now if this was true, the library would have surveillance footage of Adnan and

This man's name is "Ronald Lee Moore" who was a serial rapist and killer. Released on January 1st, 1999 there is little reason to doubt that he could be a possible suspect. Now when Hae's body was found, a rape kit was used and DNA was taken from under her fingernails. If Adnan's DNA was tested against what was found, this case can be rightfully rested forever. The only issue is that though Adnan had 100% agreed to the testing, his new lawyer Justin Brown had decided against it. Others will argue that Adnan had only publicly agreed to it so It would make him look good. As one reddit user says "Maybe, but we are all dancing around the obvious truth, no lawyer would say no to a DNA test that could free their wrongfully convicted client. The only reason Brown said no is because Syed said no." Even though this makes Adnan seem unquestionably guilty for retracting his request, he may have had a good reason to. What if the DNA was tampered with or contaminated? DNA testing is not always reliable and this issue is evident in a large number of investigations. One well known incident of this occurring is the Josiah Sutton rape case- "In 2004, Josiah Sutton was exonerated after serving four and a half years of a 25-year sentence for a rape he did not commit. Sutton's conviction was the result of a mistaken identification and faulty scientific testing performed by the Houston police laboratory." stated the Innocence Project, who is also following Adnan's
Undisclosed and Serial, two podcasts, have made Adnan Syed’s case a public phenomenon. This case originated on January 13th, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was found murdered and buried in Leakin Park about a month later. Adnan and Hae dated and had broken up shortly before the incident took place. This makes Adnan a main suspect in the investigation of her disappearance and murder.
Recently in a podcast called Serial narrated by Sarah Koenig brought up a complex case of a murder of a teenage girl in 1999. The podcast goes over information about the case and the possibility of the main suspect Adnan Syed of being innocent. In 1999 on January 13, Hae Min Lee was murdered by manual strangulation. Hae Min Lee’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed was found guilty 6 weeks later and has been serving time in prison ever since. The state found Adnan guilty, but I do not believe that he was the culprit.
On January 13, 1999, Hae Min Lee was reported missing and later found dead in Leakin park in Baltimore . Adnan Syed, Hae Min Lee’s ex boyfriend was convicted of the murder then sentenced to life on the charge of 1st degree murder. Jay Wilds was the witness for the trial that stated that Adnan had killed Hae, and both Adnan and himself had buried the body. Adnan’s lawyer for this trial was Christina Gutierrez who failed to use the only alibi for Adnan, Asia McClain, and go through DNA evidence on Hae. I believe Adnan Syed should be granted a second trial, because of the competence of his attorney.
While preparing for the retrial, the Innocence Project sought further DNA testing on semen from the victim’s bed sheets. DNA test results released in November 2007 showed that the semen came from the same person as the hairs and the cells found under the victim’s fingernails. On December 4, 2007, prosecutors dropped the pending charges against Heins. Chad Heins, 33, had been incarcerated for 13
Obsidian Mekediak Tyler Bonnette RD 117 19 Dec 2022 Rhetorical Analysis of Sarah Koenig’s ‘Serial’ Adnan Syed was convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee February 25, 2000. Syed has claimed his innocence since he was arrested. Syed’s conviction was based on Jay Wilds’ testimony. Wilds claimed Syed had strangled Hae Min Lee, and convinced Wilds to help bury her body. Sarah Koenig’s initial purpose of creating the podcast ‘Serial’ and investigating the conviction of Adnan Syed for the murder of Hae Min Lee was to conclude if the state's case against Syed was flawed and in doing that, Koenig was successful.
Adnan Syed vs. Justice system Adnan Syed is a famous figure who is widely known for being the subject of the first serial season of the popular podcast ‘’Serial “. He was born in Baltimore and was serving a life sentence until his release in 2022 for a murder he was convicted for in 2000.During his trial for the murder of high school classmate Hae Min Lee, his then attorney represented him poorly, contributing multiple factors leading to his imprisonment. Since then, advocates for Syed believe he was wrongly accused of the crime. On January 13, 1999 The body of Hae min lee was found in Leakin Park by a worker there. The detectives’ Main suspect was the ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed, Based on the story of only one key witness, Jay, Adnan was dragged out of his home and put in handcuffs.
On February 9, 1999 Hae Min Lee was found in Leakin Park, Baltimore, Maryland with signs of manual strangulation. The state claimed that Adnan Syed, Hae’s former boyfriend at the time was responsible because they believed he was enraged of their relationship ending. My claim is Adnan Syed is likely not responsible for the death of Hae Min Lee, because there was insufficient evidence to prove he was guilty and the trial was unfair, it was based more on his racial background than the actual case itself. Adnan can be proved innocent with Don’s odd alibi and suspicions.
On January 13th, 1999 in Baltimore, Maryland, a girl named Hae Min Lee was reported missing. Hae was a senior at Woodlawn High School. She was popular, she played field hockey and lacrosse, and she was an exceptional student. On February 9th, 1999, Hae’s body was discovered in Leakin Park; about an hour’s drive away from the high school. She was found behind a fallen tree, and her body was buried barely six inches in the ground.
Because the judge dropped the case and ruled that he was innocent, he only served about 23 years. Like teens everywhere, Hae and Adnan were in a toxic relationship ship, breaking up and then getting back together the following day. They attended Woodlawn High School together. There are many people who argue that he is innocent and wrongfully convicted. Adnan Syed did not kill Hae min lee because there is not enough evidence linking him to the murder of Hae Min Lee and because of Jay’s inconsistencies.
Although a Baltimore, Maryland jury accused Adnan Syed guilty of the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee; The question is did Maryland’s justice system accuse the wrong person of the crime. Adnan Syed was a student at Woodlawn High School. He was a much liked teenager by his peers. He made good grades, played school sports, and was an EMT. Adnan was a typical teenager who drank, smoked pot and kept secrets from his Muslim family heritage.
Carson Butler Dayhoff English 3 2-7-17 Serial Paper As indicated by reports and measurements from the National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center, around one in nine homicides were conferred by a young less than 18 years old in 1999; Hae Min Lee was one of the incalculable casualties of this kind of murder on January 13, 1999. Adnan Syed was indicted this murder by the condition of Maryland in February of 2000. The principle onlooker in his trial was Jay, who the state bases their case off of in light of his credible narrating including the murder.
Furthermore, Chou points out that many pieces of evidence, including testimony from Syed's classmate Asia McClain, who claimed to have seen him at the library at the time of the murder, may have offered an alibi for Syed. The Innocence Project, an organization that tries to justify wrongfully convicted people, has also expressed interest in Adnan Syed's case. They claim that "the evidence against Syed was extremely weak, consisting of testimony from one person who has since recanted, and cell phone records that have since been discredited" (see "Adnan Syed Case"). Furthermore, according to the Innocence Project, there was no physical evidence linking Syed to the crime scene, and several pieces of evidence, such as Asia McClain's testimony, were not introduced at
The evidence that the state had on Adnan failed to provide an alibi, the cell phone evidence, Jay Wilds' testimony, and that Adnan had motive to kill her. Why was there so much evidence that wasn’t tested? They didn’t test DNA that would have been on Hae’s body. If you were being strangled, would you just let it happen or would you fight back?
If our judicial system still believes that someone is innocent until proven guilty, then Adnan has to be innocent, because they did not prove him
The Innocence Of Adnan Syed Adnan Syed was wrongfully convicted of a murder he did not do and there is no physical evidence he actually committed the murder. Some background on the case is that Hae Min Lee was Murdered in Baltimore in 1999 and was found several days after she went missing. The person who was convicted was Adnan Syed. The case had no physical evidence that he committed the murder but was arrested because he was the last known boyfriend. Also the case is going up to a retrial sometime later this year into next year.
