As a boy, Alexander was tortured by the famous philosopher Aristotle. Alexander the Great was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon, he lived from 356 BC to 323 BC and was born in the capital of Macedonia, Pella. In 336 BC Philip II of Macedonia, Alexander's father was assassinated, and Alexander inherited the throne. In what ways did Alexander the Great leave his mark on history and how did his accomplishments contribute to his legacy? One reason that Alexander was great was his military strategies. Alexander met his first fierce enemy at the Granicus River, he used tactics like Phalanx and siege warfare to win battles. He and his army travelled around 7000 miles from Macedonia to Egypt and to the Hynapses River in India. Alexander was a genius when it came to war tactics such as when he and his army needed to cross the Hydaspes River without losing many of his troops. So he devised a plan to go up and down the river making noise that sounded like he was preparing for an attack but wouldn’t, but when he finally did attack the enemy had left their guard down making it an easy victory. As Alexander and his Army marched down the Mediterranean, they faced little to no resistance but when they got to the City Tire they faced heavy resistance. The city was situated on an island and had high walls, some believed it to be unconquerable. Alexander built a bridge connecting the mainland to the island, He crossed his troops and Siege machines to take the city. He had ordered that all except those who sought safety in the temple be killed.
