Advice is defined as, “guidance or recommendations concerning prudent future action, typically given by someone regarded as knowledgeable or authoritative”. There are many us who need pieces like this everyday, of course, this varies from person to person when it comes to the advice that they may need, it is very much dependent on the subject. Some of us are in more need of such advice more than others, especially when it comes to certain states that we may be in, physically, emotionally, and mentally. It has been brought to attention that there is a character in a poem that is in need of this. This character would be J. Alfred Prufrock who is presented to be a man who is somewhat later in his life and seems to be concerned with many worldly items, such as the way he looks, etc. There are three specific pieces of life advice that should be offered to Prufrock and these are, stop focusing on your outward appearance, sex appeal doesn’t matter, and finally be whoever you want to be. The first important piece of advice is not to care about the outward appearance, but focus on who you are inside, especially when it comes to personality and characteristics. Prufrock seems to care far too much about how he appears to other …show more content…
Prufrock is a truly interesting individual with very different views from other people that he may encounter when he goes out into the public. He isn’t a fool, sex appeal shouldn’t be important to him, and not everyone cares about the outward appearance and these pieces of advice would tell him that. Of course there are just things in life that can be avoided such as judgment from others. Obviously, these are the biggest pieces of advice that should be given to Prufrock because the principles truly do apply to
Dear Walter Dean Myers, Affiliations can be potential, essential, influential, and of course consequential. Steve, you entered an unthinkable, unimaginable situation, a sequence containing mental and emotional carousels. This evidential trial threw your young self into an overwhelming state, where people who did not know the slightest thing about you wanted you in jail for your entire life--the prosecutor, Sandra Petrocelli, and many citizens who accused YOU of killing Mr.Nesbitt. Your trial highlights the significance of association, how one can be caught up in gang violence, persuasion, on any occasion. They wanted 25 years to life from you, they wanted to deprive you of your late youth, and take away your whole adulthood.

Who are the Real Motivators? 1. In The Last Lecture, Randy Pausch, the author, looks back upon many of his precious memories. As a college professor, he find that various actions the students take relate to his past. For example, criticism helps.
In this text Jonathan Kozol went to a school that is really not a school because of what they do to there students just to get them to graduate. The students that Jonathan interviews tell him what they go through everyday just to graduate. They explain to him that the school system really doesn’t care about these students not even the teachers, if the teachers where ever there to see these students. Some students wanted to take AP classes so that they have an idea of what college will be like but never get in the class because “it fills up”. Even if these students entered these classes they had a probability that they wouldn’t have a teacher for that course.
Claflin University is one of the most significant academic institutions in the state of South Carolina. Despite the small size of the campus, Claflin University has much to offer to its students and faculty. Therefore, during my first semester, I fell in love with five aspects of the university and I learned to appreciate the heritage of Claflin University. Although the campus may appear to be boring at times, Claflin University offers a safe environment for all of its students.
In many cases, women need to pay more attention to their public image than men. When most women go out, they will check whether their clothing has any flaws. And they usually spend several times than men before they leave because they need to prepare and slick up for a long time. Figure 1 shows the photo of the cast of Disney’s Big Hero 6. In this picture, male stars ' clothing is very similar, such as a black suit, black tie, and black shoes.
The novel Schooled by Gordon Korman is a fantastically fabulous story. The main character is named Capricorn Anderson or Cap for short. He is a flower child,or hippie, and to his luck,Cap gets dropped in the real world at a real school for the first time because his grandmother, Rain, broke her hip. This caused Cap to drive her to the hospital where they said that Cap couldn’t go back to Garland,( The alternative farm commune that Rain has owned since the 60’s to keep the ways of the hippies alive for all this time.)Cap is very different from the other students at C Average because he practices tai chi, a kind martial arts, hadn’t heard of most modern technologies,or wedgies, and is filled with hippie wisdom, causing him to be like an alien compared to the other students. Fortunately, like anyone in a new area,he adapts and changes even in his two month stay.
In the essay, “The Peter Principle”, Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull argue that no matter what the job or position is, there comes a time where every job gets filled by someone who isn’t competent enough to fulfill their role completely. This article is extracted from the book called The Peter Principle: Why Things Always Go Wrong. With having every right to speak about the issue, Peter and Hull specified certain examples to convey their point clearly. Laurence Peter was a Canadian educator and hierarchiologist and Raymond Hull was a Canadian playwright, television screenwriter and lecturer. Laurence Peter also published The Peter Plan and Peter’s Almanac.
The story of my body by Judith Ortiz Cofer is a short story about the appearance of a Puerto Rican girl who moved to the United States. She was always characterized by her appearance, whether it was by her family in Puerto Rico or her classmates in America. She was considered to be a pretty baby and learned how to be a pretty girl from her mother as stated in the second paragraph. Growing up this way, it is concluded that she cared a great deal about her looks. Eventually she got the chickenpox which left ugly scars along her face.
For instance, he writes “And would it have been worth it, after all, / After the cups, the marmalade, the tea, / Among the porcelain, among some talk of you and me, / Would it have been worth while, / To have bitten off the matter with a smile, / To have squeezed the universe into a ball / To roll it toward some overwhelming question” (“Prufrock” 87-93). This vivid imagery shows how he compares taking on some overwhelming question to squeezing the universe into a ball; this is virtually impossible, so Prufrock is very intimidated by confronting people in society, specifically women. He believes that it wasn’t worth it and convinces himself it was a good idea that he didn’t risk anything for this woman. The fragmentation in
In this poem, we are taught to value everyone because we don’t know their stories and we don’t know what they have been through. An example of this is “He tried to kill himself in grade ten when a kid who could still go home to mom and dad had the audacity to tell him “get over it” as if depression is something that can be remedied by any of the contents found in a first aid
This self-denial gives him further resolve at the end of the poem to still refuse to propose. Eliot’s allusion to Shakespeare’s Hamlet is clever in this way because in the play Hamlet is also indecisive; so much so that he needs a reminder from his father’s ghost to kill his uncle, Claudius, who killed his father, took the throne, and married his mother (Shmoop). In this same portion of the poem as the Hamlet allusion, Prufrock admits that he thinks he’s too old to marry, that he is so old fashioned he still “wear[s] the bottoms of [his] trousers rolled” (Greenblatt 1304, line 121). This shows the reader that Prufrock still is adamant that he is not going to propose to the

Over the past one and half month, the class of PDE 502 (Counselling and Career Education) has taught me some major lessons for life in dealing with the clients in response to their emotional needs. The role of a counsellor is not unlike that of a friend where by it is nurtured by being in each other’s company, talking over everyday issues and sharing feelings. However, what sets a counsellor apart is their experience and the ability to apply counselling theories and techniques to assist people in gaining awareness, insight and explore ways of solving their own issues.
Before this, I thought advice, guidance and counselling are generally the same, but I found that there is a huge difference between those terms. Advice is giving opinions or recommendation to individuals and it is based on the helper’s ability, potential, understanding, experiences and knowledge. The individuals may or may not be able to follow the specific advice due to different potentials in oneself. Moreover, anyone can give advice at anytime and anywhere. It is like a situation where someone is giving opinion to me on how to gain weight by taking supplements, but her recommendation maybe not suitable for me to follow because I might suffer some side-effects.
