Political parties serve countless roles in America’s government. Foremost, it needs to be said they are crucial to America’s political system. The political parties are the heart and brain of our government's body, urging people to conceive and feel different ways on different topics whether the controversy is over how money is distributed or the way immigrants should be treated or dealt with. With each party having a biased view it shows how a group can be increasingly powerful with bountiful amounts of support, names and divisions can be heard. Democrats are widely known to be liberal rather than conservative. When it comes to the Republicans, they are known to be conservative. Political parties fuel the fire of our nation's citizen’s political views. …show more content…
Americans strive to fight for what is right. Americans who vote will vote for the candidate who shares the same political views as the voter. It is fascinating how unconsciously Americans, as voters, oftentimes forget to take the time to contemplate why the candidate that shares the same views as us is right. Political parties have led us as a nation through dark times, such as the Great Depression, they serve as a vital lifeline for our government. Without any political parties there would be not representation, voting would become exceedingly complicated than it should be, our government would change entirely. Although it would not become a lawless anarchy, it would become a dull, frail, lifeless government. Without the spark and fire of political parties, America would become lethargic and mundane. As previously stated; political parties are the heart and brain of America’s government. That means without political parties, America's government would become essentially lifeless. With that it can be said that political parties are essential and beneficial to America's government, people, and political
In the twenty-first century, the United States is predominately a two-party political system. In George Washington’s Farwell Address (1796) he said, “The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism” (para. 22). In this speech, Washington cautioned his fellow Americans about the risks of political parties; he claimed the partisanship would lead to inter-political discord, divide the nation, and give rise to instances of tyranny. Although a two-party system has the potential to not be detrimental to the country, with people following the examples of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson Americans have a tendency to put their personal political associations ahead of what may be best for the country.
Political parties began in America when two of George Washington’s advisors, Alexander Hamilton, leader of the Federalist and Thomas Jefferson, leader of the Democratic Republicans disagreed on political issues. Newspapers also influenced political parties. The Federalists and the Democratic Republicans were political parties that were created when an agreement could not be made for what would be best for the country. Hamilton was influenced by Britain to encourage trade and manufacturing, while Jefferson favored farming. Hamilton also favored a strong federal government, while Jefferson believed it would take the state’s power.
But, the Election of 1796 was the first election in American history where political candidates began to run for office as members of organized political parties that held strongly opposing political principles. Why are there only two political parties only? There are a few different beliefs in why there are only two political parties that dominate. One of the reasoning is that a two-party system arose in the U.S. from early political battling between the Federalist and the Anti-Federalist. The Development of the Two Party Systems After the new United States congress completed its task of creating a Bill of Rights, it turned its attention to the issue of financing the new government.
In fact, the Framers wanted to avoid political parties because the Constitution promotes unity while political parties promotes individual self-interests over what’s good for the country, but “free association, after all, meant that like-minded individuals could interact with one another,” (Fine & Levin-Waldman, 2016, Chapter 9, “What is a Political Party and What is its Purpose,” para. 1). Political parties play a huge role in America’s democracy because they get people out to vote and they organize the government. The purpose of a political party is to take positions on current issues by nominating the best candidates to represent what the party stands for. Democrats and Republicans are the two main parties that represent most of the citizens. Once a candidate takes office, they carry out and act on the solutions for the current public issues that the party believes in.
Political parties, Democratic Republicans and Federalists, started in the U.S. because of differing views of Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, and the influence of newspapers. Jefferson’s and Hamilton’s different ways of thinking(mostly on issues that was beneficial for the country) played a huge part in the start of political parties. They fought about economy. Jefferson liked farming while Hamilton preferred manufacturing and trade. Interpretation of the Constitution was another thing they fought upon.
George Washington had a vision for the United States of America that seems to be unattainable. In his Farewell Address, he gave a strong warning to the nation: don’t create political parties, and don’t create alliances with other nations. While Washington had good intentions, there was little possibility of his warnings being heeded. Political parties were established before Washington even left office, and permanent alliances with foreign militaries show no signs of disappearing. Washington acknowledged that political parties are a part of human nature in his Farewell Address, and that still holds true today.
A political party is two different organizations made up of people with different ideas for how the country should be run. They argue over “who is right”. People join political parties who have similar beliefs ( Doc 1). Jefferson and Hamilton created the first two political parties. Jefferson, the Democratic Republicans, and Hamilton, the Federalists, had very different ideas for the new nation.
7/9/2023 The Evolution of the Political Party and Political Polarization [1] After the events of the American Revolution, in his Farewell Address, President George Washington warned against the nature of political parties; however, as political affairs became increasingly complex, the government required a different system. Today, and throughout much of American history, this system takes the form of political parties. Furthermore, despite the existence of other parties like the Green Party, Reform Party, and Socialist Party, the only two political parties genuinely elected within the United States are the Democrat Party and Republican Party. Even with just two parties within the election system, dynamic change, and rich history
As the foundations of a successful government system, political parties help keep balance of power and uphold the Democratic ideals of the United States. These parties have origins that can trace back to the early sectional tensions in America. These sectional tensions were the primary reasons for the development and progression of political parties in the United States. As early as 1800, signs of deviation would appear.
I believe that political parties were developed in the United States because they allow people to make decisions based on their beliefs. Both Hamilton and Jefferson were very great men but they wanted something different with the government. There are many reasons why political parties developed in our country. Hamilton and Jefferson have many differences between themselves.
The majority of us now relate the American political system to the constant rivalry between political parties. While they vie for the support and votes of the American people, Republican and Democratic Party leaders engage in what seems like an endless debate. Early American Republic two centuries ago, and our founding fathers were essentially at peace with this reality. The majority of them, along with President Washington, were worried that the formation of political parties would split the young nation into warring sections, damage our sense of national identity, and weaken support for the new Constitution. Although the American Constitution aimed to prevent the formation of political factions, the rise of political parties in the 1790s
The Meaning of being an American has changed tremendously over the years. Being an American in the early 1800s means many different things. When i went to America last year they taught me that to be an American I need to understand Politics, Music and the American Religion. When I was down in America there were many people talking about Politics. Apparently politics is a really big thing there.
The GOP support Second Amendment rights, the right to bear arms, to ensure that everyone has the ability to defend themselves not only from criminals, but also from enemies trying to attack. Abortion is not viewed favorably by most Republicans and neither is stem-cell research. The Republicans are also mainly against LGBT marriage rights but not just because they do not agree with the idea, but because they believe the decision should be left to the states. The Democrats are the complete opposite. Democrats try to limit the Second Amendment as much as possible.
